Swansea (H) Post Match Thread

Load of crap. Once again we could have hit the missing eight or nine and once again we failed.
No surprise we took our foot off the gas having won the title last weekend.
Those three records are still looking possible I suppose.

Were we that good or were Swansea that poor. We made it look like a training game between the first team and the under 12’s which at this level is phenomenal. Everyone played well other than Eddie who could have spent the entire 90 minutes having a picnic on the goal line. I think they had one tentative shot on target such was our control. Loved the subs. Yaya played like the years had rolled back, Phil like the years had rolled forward. Great to see Mendy back as well. Motm for me was Bernardo. Lovely goal and he tormented Swansea all game. His touch of a football is Silvaesque!

I hope we can keep up this level for the next few games.

I kind of miss the 'end of season' games from the 70s, where the team had no pressure & could just turn on the style. But yersterday was that, with workrate.

It would be great to finish at our flamboyant best, sneak a bit of Foden & Diaz in, but do it with the same professionalism we showed over the season.

And it looks as if we might do it.

Thoroughly enjoyed the game. The players were all up for it and for a team like Swansea they can’t live with that. We have been spoiled with some beautiful football this season. With the thought it might even get better next year.

KdB showed what he can do and has been doing for almost every game. Still not enough to win PotY award, but I’m just happy he is our player.

Foden had a great few minutes on the pitch vs a tiring and by that time well beaten Swansea defence. Hope he will be involved even more the next few games. As I hope we will finish in style and break a few records on our way to the final whistle at Southampton.

Sitting in my kitchen with a bottle of shiraz, mellow, happy, couldnt care a toss about pitch invasions or much else really. We played brilliant football today. We are CHAMPIONS. Sliding away in an alcoholic haze......Cham....

Aside from a shapeless, drifting 20 minutes towards the end of the First Half, we were totally dominant, and for once, looked just as threatening after the substitutions.

I reckon after Kev and Raz were subbed, we had only 3 of our first choice team on the park...

Great line that Blue. Perfectly summed up.

This comment in the Swansea match report in the Guardian made me smile...

"First time I’ve seen a pre match guard of honour continue for 90 plus minutes"

The Swansea players were shell shocked at the end.

it's a shame about the slip-up v the rags and the fact the Dippers have one on us, because we've struck the fear of Allah into everyone else in the league and it's only the fact we've demonstrated those weaknesses that gives the rest any hope of competition and incentive to really believe next season.

Agreed but looking at the hunger of those players some of which weren’t even first choice, shows how much this side won’t be complacent next season. Dare I say it this has the feeling of something very special ahead of us.

I certainly hope it transfers over to next season, I just enjoy the aura of teams turning up against us, even in their own stadium, and they're beaten before a ball's been kicked. I would love for us to have that aura and power over the rest of the league for years to come, especially over our rivals.

Silva wow greatest ever play and Pep says he ain’t going to play as many games next season!!

I don't think it is his performance, I think it is about keeping the performance level high with age. A player like D.Silva is also going to be so hard to replace and whilst it's ok saying Foden or B.Silva can do (both certainly have potential) you are talking about replacing the greatest ever player the club has ever had in the modern era. So it does make sense to also have it phased out over a few seasons to minimise the disruption.

Possibly Gondogan's best game for us, possibly Delph's best game for us.
What a team performance though, some wonderful football, and yet room for improvement in some areas (finishing - but that isn't a complaint as we scored 4 cracking goals, and Bernardo reacted well to the penalty save).
The possession stats were ridiculous 83/17 according to BBC, I think someone needs to buy Ederson a deck chair.
