More likely he’s just out of favour, imo. His form has him as a resounding 4th choice right now and there’s only ever going to be 3 centre backs in the match day squad (apart from when we start with 3 at the back). Protects him to have “a slight injury” that lasts until the close season.

He was majestic before his injury and then woeful afterwards, with Laporte joining as well and needing game time it doesn't leave a lot of room for Stones and he now looks like a player that needs to be playing constantly to keep his levels up, a small break and his form suffers.
