Could someone please tell me when we signed Saireeo Aweiro.

FFS City replace this muppet commentator NOW

I think he's actually brilliant. One of the best commentators around. Usually his pronunciation of foreign names is spot on.

That kind of is his name, numbskull

You`ve obviously forgotten his semi final commentary against the rags with his Ber-Batt-of, and Touraya Ya Ya comments. He (like you is trying to be a smartarse, and like you he fails miserably.
I cant believe after all the anti comments then, that he still has the job, and hasn`t at least been told to tone it down, with his over-the-top attempts at local pronunciation, that frankly sound pathetic

But that is how you're supposed to pronounce Berbatov though.

PMSL! Over the top? That /is/ his name. In the very least it's respectful.

I still think he is trying and failing to be superior, and assuming you have listened to him on last night commentary, he does not sound much like the correct pronunciation below, and im my opinion if you are trying to be smart and fail, you just end up looking stupid

Is the Argentinean accent, which sounds akin to Italian, the only way to pronounce his name in Spanish? ;)

Just fuck off mate, and get over it.

EDIT: And I'd like to add that it's the rest of the world that finds English speakers superior, as we don't give a damn about pronouncing anything foreign correctly.

Why? Because he has the good manners to pronounce foreign players names correctly?

I refer you to my post above, he may well attempt to pronounce foreign players names correctly, but he fails, sounds superior in his attempts, and i find his attempts very condescending, cant believe i`m alone in this

laughable, lecture someone on being respectful, then just turn abusive with f**k off comments.

The 2 examples of correct pronunciation i`ve posted, one is Argentinian, the other Chilean, not sure what it got to do with sounding "akin to Italian"<br /><br />-- Tue Aug 16, 2011 9:37 am --<br /><br />

That's exactly what Tevez, Zab and David Silva would call him!

so why does the link i`ve posted say otherwise?

I was just noting that that pronounciation isn't the only way to say his name in Spanish. In fact, it's a bit different.

You're pissing yourself because he tries to say foreign names as they are. And then want to talk about him not saying the names well enough as if the names are /correct/ in English anyway...

On another note, do you call David, DAVE-id Silva? Just a question.

I personally, in conversation with friends would refer to him as davv-id, however i would not try and impose my (i believe) correct version, as in a football commentary unless i was sure of my pronunciation, (and had possibly even checked it with the club/ player). I obviously have no way of knowing if this has happened or not. However, in my opinion (same as was prior to checking website, having lived in Spain for 3 years), his version, is totally different to everybody else (City players, staff, spokesman etc and media in general) and is OTT and incorrect

I don't know how you pronounce it, but usually accents over a letter signify it should be stressed.

I enjoyed the commentary and video.

Couldn't agree more.

His pronunciations on commentary for the City review dvd are cringeworthy.

Yes, that may be somewhat closer to the actual pronunciations, but he puts a ridiculous amount of emphasis on them. Plus when going from an English accent to a generic foreign sounding one for French names, Spanish, Italian and Argentinian ones he is very irritating and somewhat distracts from what is happening on the pitch, whereas commentators are meant to blend in and narrate.

He comes across as a pretentious douche!

It isn't moaning, its bringing attention to the fact that City need someone better.

surely you mean daveed silba ;)

Perhaps someone asked Aguero how his name is pronounced?

When Kuyt signed for Liverpool all the commentators pronounced it Koit, then one of the commentators interviewed him and asked him how it should be pronounced. He said Kowt. Since then they nearly all proounce it Kowt.

When United signed De Gea most commentators initially pronounced it with a hard "g" but now seem to be realising that its pronounced more like De Hay. And its only through watching spanish football on tv that I've realised that the "g" in Getafe is more like "h".

When i was a kid it was considered pretentious to pronnoune Majorca anything other than Madge-orca but that long since died out.

We'll all be calling him Awero by the end of the season.
