Swansea (home) post match thread

Pantillimon Lescott Fernandinho and Nasri were class.

We played reasonably well but I think Yaya is struggling defensively in a two-man central midfield. He looks immobile and at times unfit too. There were moments when all the forwards were pressing and we were putting them under real pressure and then they were confronted by Yaya and he was bypassed with absolute ease. He was making forward runs and leaving Fernandinho to deal with three men. Fernandinho is doing two players' jobs at times. The thing is Yaya is like a schizophrenic player, because with the ball he is almost exemplary. He never gives the ball away. It's a tough situation though.

With better finishing they could have scored two goals today. The one right before half time was an absolute sitter. But we played through and got that second goal. As I say we were reasonable and a few were class.

Credit to Swansea. They came to play football and showed what a good side they have become .
The difference was they would have 6 or 7 passes and get nowhere while looking very tidy , while we would have 2or 3 passes and be in a goal threatening situation .
Shelvey looks a decent player , but everyone was in the shadow of Nasri today , while I thought Fernandinho was once again pivotal in his work rate and ability to keep the ball and recycle it effectively, Zabba seemed like a man possessed , in fact , hard to find fault with any of them.
Footnote to Nasri's renaissance , psychologists everywhere would do well to talk to Pellers about how to handle a troubled soul and turn him into a model of self belief!
Finally , Swansea's fans came across a lot better than some of the so called "big club" sorts - for once I never heard the tiresome "where were you when you were shit" bollocks!

Just what we needed that, a hard game that we had to fight to win.

I thought we were very good defensively, only once did they get through (awful attempt - but credit to Pants for being big), nearly all their other efforts were long distance (2 good saves), but they gave us a game, made us work hard, and in the end we dominated after the break and won comfortably.

I thought it was a very good sign that we had to work hard to have a right to possession of the ball, overcame the fact that ball just wouldn't run for us first half, got our lead, held on a bit, then ran out convincing winners, against the best team to come to the Etihad (bar Rayern) this season, by some distance.

I thought Swansea were very good, they play a nice game, and luckily they didn't have a better finisher, but we fought hard all over the pitch, not at our best, but the work ethic bodes well for the next few games.

3 super goals, we really are privileged to see goals this good in this quantity.

Pantillimon - 7
Zab - 7
Demichellis -7
Lescott - 7
Clichy - 8 (best game this season for me)
Navas - 7
Yaya - 7
Fernandihno - 7
Nasri - 9 (Excellent again)
Aguero - 7
Negredo - 7

Milner - 7
Kolorov - 7
Dzeko - 6

I thought MP made good changes today, at key points in the game.

Well played Swansea too, if any of your fans are reading this, you're the best league club we've played at home so far, keep it up, get a decent finisher back fit, and I hope you can hurt some of our rivals for the title, home and away. Its good to see football played the right way by away teams at The Etihad.

Just got in & not read the rest of the thread. I thought Swansea were one of the best teams to come to ours in the league this year. They kept the ball really well but didn't threaten that much, apart from that chance first half which luckily for us they missed.

Nasri was class today, MOTM in my opinion. Whole team did well & we did enough to get a result. Almost seems like an anti climax if we don't score at least four at home these days. Think Pants is looking solid in goal also.

Need to take the home form into the away games & beat WBA & Southampton.

Well done boys - not totally firing at times today up-front, but 3 goals and a clean sheet is an excellent result against a decent outfit.

Defiantly need to sort our away form though.

Good summary.

This is a very minor point considering the whole context of the match but I thought Mr P did exceptionally well with his substitutions today and all three did well when they got on the field.

I understand that on the Chelsea forums they are calling the special one for turning Hazard into "A" James Milner; -

After his little cameo today - they should be so lucky !

Well Pantilimon showed his quality in goal, and without him today we could have been in trouble in the first half, it was not a good first half for City they were off the pace, and Swansea looked the better side in that first half, however in the second half we controlled the game and deservedly won the game, but we should play flat out from the get go, but we got away with another poor first half just like we did on Wednesday night, i will take winning and not playing well but it can't continue, it will catch up with us at some point.
