Swansea - Post match thread

Or play him there often enough for him to master the position. I think he's got the skills to play that role, but it would take time for him to be comfortable in that position.

The first thing Zabba did, when he came on, was get skinned alive & hack down the oppo player. I'm glad he wasn't on from the start.

Imo Fernadinho did absolutely fine, for a new player starting at fullback & far better than Zabba did when he started there. And the surprising thing was that it was his passing choices which were the weakest part of his game, not his defending.

Perhaps some people think Zabba 7 Sagna are actually better footballers than Fernandinho, & therefore have an advantage. I'd say they can't lace his boots, so therefore, if Pep requires it, Fernandinho can learn the right back position, far quicker than Zabaleta did.

I'm sure he can, but what's the point? He's superb as a defensive mid - comfortably the best we have in that position. So let's simply buy a decent right back and let Maffeo have a run too. Sure, Fern can play there occasionally if needed, but I'd hate to see Fern being at right back all the time personally.

What do you expect them to say. Kun will be gone in the summer if a big bid comes in and Pep can line up a replacement. Yesterday was very much glass half full half empty stuff. Felt that Pep was very very slow to react to the obvious sea change in the match after the break and this was not the first time he was tardy. We are developing a bit of a soft centre at home defending leads and away when we fall behind. Hope we can sort this out in the summer.

On the last couple of instances he's reacted quickly, we've let goals in immediately, as we did when he reacted tardily yesterday.

I don't think it's even a talking point personally. Sometimes it works, sometimes it has the opposite effect.

The problem isn't substitutions, it's learning to defend properly, as a team, & especially the back 3,4, 10 or whatever, whoever plays. We are playing some of the best football in the world, but it's very difficult for us to actually score & far too easy for anyone to score against us imo.

BBC hate campaign against City continues. This is from the Jesus entry on Crooks team of the week.

Stopped reading when I got to "Crooks".

Sure, if we need him in the centre, play him there. But we didn't improve in that area when we made the change & we weakened the rb position.

Barca might have thought that about Mascherano at cb. But it became a way of getting more quality into the team. If Fernandinho got his shit together on the ball, he's a whole world better than most fullbacks we could find, who are usually deeply flawed & very expensive, some are slow & skillful, some are fast & shit, some are skillful fast & stupid, some can attack but not defend, etc etc.

There is no guarantee that the fulbacks we sign, will turn out better than the ones we have already. We just hope they will.

Having players who can solve potential problems is a godsend & is what Pellegrini should have been doing with the squad, & the kids, for 3 years.

I don't mind either way, but I'm sure Fern can learn that role & probably be as good as anyone else, is my point.

I don't see the point. He's great - arguably one of our most important players - in a central defensive mid role. And we have two right backs who although are knocking on are both OK and also Maffeo who have shown great promise.

I thought it was a very strange selection coming on the back of the West Ham game. I can only think that he wants to play both Yaya & Fernandhino but also wants to stick with a single pivot. Perhaps the selection was made with an eye on the CL games, perhaps he doesnt think that ok will be good enough if we are to progress much further in the competition.

He did say earlier in the season that Fernadhino can play almost any position and I think he has the skills to perform that role. But he would need a few games to be comfortable in the role.

You can tell Raz didn't score or assist a goal as the usuals are dropping him again.

He assisted the first goal for me, don't know if he got a touch or not but he forced the issue which saw the ball pop up to Jesus, that's an assist in my book.
