Swimming Lake Windermere

A friend as entered and was on about me doing it with him. I am no machine by any means but this last two years I have started running.. Did Manchester marathon last year that was some challenge for me. So this year I put down for Blackpool marathon in April and the Snowdonia marathon end of Oct.. That's my main challenge.. Want to try a triathlon poss.. So we shall see about this swim. I would struggle myself as I don't swim at all and been a good few years.. I'm interested thou in how he progress through all this..

Time for our monthly update in respect of our intrepid explorer and fund raiser.

In his own words...

Decided to give the lessons the elbow due to the price of them and just had a look on youtube and got some useful tips from there which have really helped.
I have done 70-80 legnths a couple of times about a week ago. The last few times ive been ive not counted legnths but have been swimming for about an hour and half so im guessing im getting on for 100 legnths, if not more. I was even asked to leave the other night as it was closing time (I thought this only happened in pubs).
Over the next month my main aim will be to increase speed but keep the time
of 80-90 of swimming.

What he hasn't mentioned is his confrontation in the baths with an old feller who kicked him. Cityfan said "Why did you kick me?" to which the guy said.....

"Because you splashed me."

Cityfan may well be taking time off his strict training regime to attend the Crown and Anchor tomorrow - don't forget the orange paint for his belly.

Thanks to all those who have donated, supported and in any way expressed an interest in his charity swim which will take place on June 16th.

As mentioned above training is coming along ok. Getting use to spending a lot of time in the pool now. Might need to investe in a waterproof mp3 player to help with the boredom, but so far I'm happy with the training.
I hope to be in the Crown and anchor tomorrow as part of my "rest" day. These rest days normally involve drinking enough beer to fill lake Windermere.

As soon as Salford Quays opens for the open water swimminng season, I'd be happy to join you down there so you can experience some open water swimming conditions.

I drove the length of Windermere last week and it reminded me of this thread .
As I look across it I thought "thats not 2 miles wide".
Looked it up and its less than a mile at its widest point .
If you are prepared , then if you can walk a mile , you can swim a mile .

Cheers mate. I think its April time when it opens.

Quick update for those that are interested. I can do the distance now fairly comfortably and am beginning to pick up the pace which I am happy with. Salford Quays and other local open water swimming locations start to open from next week which I am looking forward to so I can get outside and give it a go.
I'm doing it for Christies so If you would like to sponsor me my just giving page is below. Thanks,

Longer than the Muffin or Barm saga.

More complicated than Game of Thrones.

More exciting than the 2012/13 premiership title race.

More sexy than the Gratuitious Pictures of Lasses thread*

After 4 months training he is less than 8 weeks away from conquering the unconquerable.

Please offer out intrepid swimmer your words of support and any spare cash you might have.
