Link to this open knowledge with quotes?

Bolton boss Owen Coyle has confirmed talks are ongoing aimed at bringing Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips to the Reebok Stadium.

Wright-Phillips knows he will have limited chances at City this term and will be allowed to leave by manager Roberto Mancini.

However, Bolton are unable to match Wright-Phillips' estimated £70,000-a-week wages and, so far, have been unable to find a way of bridging the gap.

Work is continuing though, with Coyle admitting he would "love" to have Wright-Phillips in his squad.

"Shaun is a tremendous player," said Coyle.

"He is someone I would love to bring to the club. Whether it is possible, only time will tell.

"There are financial implications involved. Players at Manchester City are on contracts that are more than we could pay. There is a threshold we cannot go beyond.

"But there has been dialogue between our chairman and (City chief executive) Garry Cook. That is where we are at the moment. There is nothing concrete."

So nowhere in that interview does it say it's common knowledge Bolton are talking with Shaun.talking with Shaun and enquiring to city are 2 entirely different things.

Shaun has openly stated time and time again he has no wish to leave city.homegrown and could easily get 20 games judging by the amount of competitions we are in.IMO that's the correct amount to get the most out of swp anyway.

I think Mancini has finally seen the logic to keeping swp.

Only issue is upstairs may not like his wage on the balance sheet but IMO it's worth it.

Gary Cook wouldnt even be talking to them if we werent willing to sell. I said it was common knowledge because it has been reported in different papers. I didnt mean it was stated in an interview. Your now talking about Shaun wanting to stay, in the original post you spoke about us wanting to keep him. As i stated i think the fact they are talking with Garry Cook shows we are willing to sell.

I thought Mancini's position was clear - he's happy for SWP to stay as he's good to have around the place but he'd understand if SWP wanted to leave for regular football and the club won't stand in his way.

I have to say, why sell Shaun and sign Alessio Cerci? He's not particularly impressive whereas Shaun has blue blood and will do a job against most teams in the Premier League the weekend after a Champions League game.

He's a brilliant squad player to have about the place and I'd disagree strongly with Mancini if he wanted to sell him.

This is my understanding of it.

Regarding Garry cook I guarantee if a club rings enquiring about any player he'd at least listen out of courtesy.this does not mean he'd sell behind bobby's back.so he could receive an offer he likes but then ask Bobby if he would want that player gone.

Another factor is I think coyle is wrong on a few levels,he mentioned cook but isn't John Williams handling outgoing/Marwood incoming and Cook the business side?

What Mancini tries to say is that they will allow clubs like Bolton to try to sign him because he can't reallly promise him first-team football and he is not badly needed and this would also lower the wage bill.

But if SWP doesn't want to leave and decides to stay. He will not be frozen out of the squad like Ade, Bellamy, Bridge, Onuoha etc....if they dont find new clubs.

Exactly this, although i think Mancini is being diplomatic. I dont think he will be losing sleep if Shauny leaves.

Methinks you`re arguments are very flawed.

He's just acting the diplomat and showing Swp the door instead of trying to kick him through it a la Ade, Bellers etc.

I agree with this, except to say that it might be Shauny who wants to leave so he can improve his chances of playing for England, if its Mancini who wants him to leave in order to make room for Cerci, well thats just daft.

I heard it as 'we are trying hard to find somewhere for Shaun to go because he's a decent guy and he deserves first team football, whereas I couldn't give a fuck about the rest and they can rot in the reserves if they like'

Edit: listened again and came to my senses, sounds like he might be staying

Why's he talkin' to Bolton then ??

Accordin' to Owen Coyle it's only a matter of crossin' the t's , and dottin' the i's and he's theirs ......

well that , and gettin' Shaun to take half his pay!

Looks like City would much rather have the £4 million to me !

Is the 'G' key broke on your computer? /:-/

Does the 'N' key sometimes not work on yours??? broke(n)

Shauns going. Bobbys Thick as shit, Our outstanding player of pre season and he didn't even feature in the CS. If Shaun is still a City player come Monday then he should play.

last year had 18 appearances (most as a sub). No way he gets 20 this year after the upgrades we make this window. Johnson will start less and will be the first sub off the bench. SWP would be lucky to get 10 appearances.

-- Fri Aug 12, 2011 3:31 pm --

Honestly, you do not think there are 14 other player better than SWP on the squad?
