Sydney shark attack

I was in the Caribbean. Basking sharks are bottom feeders so we had to scuba about 7 meters down and were around 5 of them just chilling on the ocean bed. They were completely chilled out so we could stroke them. Then one suddenly jumped up and that scared me a bit! It swam past me with its mouth open. Amazing sight
Basking Sharks are bottom feeders really! I thought the clue to their feeding habits would be in their name.

Im not embarrassed to say im afraid of sea swimming. I admit, its since watching jaws as a kid :))

i just dont think i could get in with a load of big fish, never mind sharks
It’s a fabulous experience.
I’ve snorkelled with a Baskin Shark down in West Cork and got close enough to run my fingers down it’s side as it glided by.
Absolutely huge and the biggest thing I’ve been in the water with.

Wrong. They are plankton feeders and they skim the surface waters where the bloom is in the sun.

Edit: I see you were answering a previous contributor and your opening statement is actually more of a surprised question.

I always took it as Baskin’ in the sunlight.
Maybe they were sleeping on the bottom.

I was snorkeling with the brother in law once when I heard this incredibly loud, girlish, underwater scream only to look over and see him thrashing about like a cat in hot tub. Then I saw a grouper that was bigger than both of us swim under me. So I joined in.

You were groping your Brother in law?

did he not say 7 meters, Photosynthesis is good for a depth of 200m to create plankton so yes bottom feeders in the enviroment he describes,,id buy that, caught one off the coast of cleveleys/Blackpool around 1980 it was one big mother completely harmless,i did return it to the sea :-)

Breaking news. The shark has been captured and interviewed. Public sympathy is growing and in a magnificent gesture Manchester United have invited it to attend their next home game. ‘ It’s what we do and no big deal’ a representative from Scum PR said at a press conference.

I've always wanted to goto SA and do the cage feeding.

Has anyone feed the sharks from a cage.

Love to hear the experience

I think we're getting shark species somewhat confused here as he also said there were several of them lying on the bottom, as they are around the size of a double decker are solitary animals and ram feeders who must constantly move mainly at the surface hence the name.

Nope, but apparently the Great Whites have largely disappeared from South African waters. I read a few articles about it, noone really knows why.
