Tackling

I've been meaning to start a thread about this. Since Vinny's sending off has anyone else noticed that we seem collectively afraid of tackling. I'm not talking about players pussying out of challenges (even though some of them patently are), i'm talking about players being over apprehensive about making a challenge because they're afraid of a poor refereeing decision. It's difficult to know for certain without asking a player directly. Earlier in the season i felt we were flying into challenges and winning the football back all over the park, whereas we're far more prone to standing off now and waiting for the opposition to gift us the ball back...

Poor blocking by Barry for the goal. Similar to his half hearted attempt to block Bale's shot last week. More committment and bravery would have saved both goals IMO.

Players for a good few seasons have often been reluctant to tackle in or near the penalty area to the point of holding up both hands and letting some shite run past them. We are not far off a tackle free game. It is common to the game now that the chance of getting a free kick from a tackle is to fall onto the floor.

And we still pick up two (soft, very soft) yellow cards last night, with Everton getting one for a tackle bordering on a red (very late and very high with stuns showing)

No ands ifs or buts about it that was 100% a red. Its fucking ridicules Kompany gets banned for making a brilliant clean tackle but some **** can chop Richards down and gets a yellow.

Don't want to get sent off for fuck all

Understandable really

Yep, even in the Derby. NDJ uncharacteristically shit out of that challenge against Welbeck that they scored from if my memory recalls.

I think they are sh*t scared of being sent off as they feel ref's are double standardising against them.

Can't blame them but I feel they've gotta try without too much agression

Very evident....Micah put in a half hearted challenge on the edge of our box where he lost the ball, not something you'd normally see from him.
