Tahiti - Champions of Oceania

The confederations cup will have Tahiti, Zambia and Uruguay competing in it, not the biggest names on their respective continents by any means. Now all we need is a surprise Euro 2012 winner, like when Greece managed it, and the Confederations Cup could be a very unusual selection of nations.

Zambia won't be in it. With the competition now being played next year too, its the winners of that 2013 tournament that will qualify for the CC.

Ah right, I forgot they seem to play the ACON every f*ckin' year nowadays!

Uruguay are also the 2nd ranked side in the World to so I guess they class as a big footballing side now. For a country with only 3 million in getting to 2nd in the world is a good achievement.

New caledonia?

It's French, despite the Scottish-based name.

First time an Oceanian nation that isn't Australia or New Zealand has won that tournament. Well done to them. It will be interesting to see how they do in the CC, I imagine its the first time they're playing teams outside their continent. They might get hammered every game, but they've earned the right to play in it.

It's only the 2nd OFC Nations Cup since Australia "moved" to Asia so that's not saying much. The first time NZ lost in the tournament as of that point would automatically be the first time a 3rd nation had won that tournament.
