"I'm surprised he has such a good press as he doesn't have any journo's in his inner circle but that may be because people still have regard for him from his time at United" (or words very close to this).

Completely indicative of how the press works in this country IMO, a cosy club for some.

Or perhaps the fact he did a very good job at Blackburn and a decent one, if not great, at city. Good luck to him I say.

I dont agree, I think Hughes getting an easy ride from the media has more to do with him being british than the fact he once played for the dark side.

Hughes must have had one or two tame journos because either he or his minions were not shy of "planting" stories backing their version of events, notably when Elano was in dispute with Hughes.

Hughes had good links through Bowen to The Daily Mail which is where he leaked stories to.

Exactly. "The best young British manager" and all that. It was never mentioned in the papers that he took over a team that had finished 9th in the Prem on 55 points, bought new players for £120 million in his first season and then finished 10th on 50 points.

Dead right.

The Hughes camp were always planting stories when the going got tough. Generally talking down thate of City when he joined.

They were in overdrive just before he got sacked. I remember being absolutely livid at one of those stories, a week or so before the end.
