That game was the last before Platt Lane was demolished so school kids got to go free. I went for old time’s sake to sit on the benches I first experienced as a kid. Managed to persuade a school teacher to give me a spare ticket.Have a vague memory of Southampton fans being housed between the main stand and north stand that game as they expected so few to travel on a Sunday
Spurs cup final replay or have I been Clarkied?I reckon I can remember us on Telly around May 1981. Maybe a Thursday too, as there was a shortened top of the pops just before it. Can't remember who against?
We has a woeful record on live TV games which continued into the PL.
We did get to see a bloody good horse show that day though.Remember back in 1992-93 season we made the quarter finals of the Fa cup and played sodding Spurs at home and it was on the beeb. The Umbro/Platt lane stand opened for the first time and Spurs had the entire North Stand.
Another false dawn as I thought we might make a semi final, Mike Sheron scored the opener. Then Spurs slowly dismantled us, the game got stopped due to a pitch invasion. Then Terry Phelan scored probably one of the greatest solo goals you would ever see by a City player but no one seemed to care. Thought I’d never see City anywhere near a cup semi or final after that, how wrong I was.
