Don't have to go as far as that there was a huge death toll in Ashton in 1917, I remember my great uncle telling he was walking back from the bakery when he was blown off his feet and the windows in the street shattered and that was 3 miles away in Duky. Suppose some tosser might think they deserved to die for having the temerity to make TNT for the war effort as well as earn a living.

I only knew about it from what my Dads uncle told me as a nipper, seems to be something that’s been lost in time.

Don’t think anything commemorates the accident or the loss of life, does seem sad that few in Ashton and the surrounding areas seem to know the sacrifices their ancestors made.

The frightening thing is that after the explosion they said 'aye up, Ducky looks much better now'
And to this day, they never repaired nowt.

Didn't say anyone deserved to die. Perhaps a yank forum might have more sympathy. They must need the munitions to bomb some mud huts and then make a movie about how sad it made them feel

I have sympathy for people losing their lives doing a job of work and their families who’ve lost loved ones. They go to work earn a living what their government does with the products isn’t down to them.
