Tenuous connections to Manchester City players old and new.

Sammy Mcllroy once patted me on the left buttock after we both got up after a tackle when I was playing against him, when he turned out for Macclesfield reserves, during his spell there.

My mate (a rag) booted Franny Lee's jaguar car one lunchtime after we'd been to the chippy near the ground. It was about 1972. We were 14/15.

We went back to school and Franny came in, complaining to the headmaster. Enquiries were made, but we had a secrecy code so I protected the rag.

In 2012, I was on holiday in Tenerife for a week and Tommy Booth and his Mrs were staying in our hotel. Top, top bloke. So funny - he was an absolute scream. Probably the best holiday I've ever had!
I was the boy who escorted a fuming Franny to the Head’s office at Xaverian College. Your Rag pal also left chips on the bonnet and snapped a wiper blade! As you know not many Rag fans at Xavs in those days. Of course everyone knew it was PC but no one grassed!

That club had a few names through the years. The Lamplight / Shades / Club Colour spring to mind 80's/90's
Apparently it was a Royal British Legion in the 1950's and The Kabin Club late 60's/early 70's.
I once met Nico of the Velvet Underground in the Lamplight. During her crazy time in Manchester. It was a great late night place.

You may think it was PC but I couldn't possibly comment :-)
Happy days - especially with the Head being a City fan, and closing the school during the power cuts so we could go to the occasional match on a Wednesday afternoon. Anyway, mustn't digress.

Played footie against Gerry Gow when I was 18 in around 1991 so he was getting on (think he was player manager at the little known Portland FC in Dorset) Madly I went into a 50 : 50 with him wish I hadnt. Whilst I left with my knees in tact my self esteem was soon to be in tatter.
In bar after game went up to him with a pint Id bought him to speak hopefully about City, he said "youre the little c**t that tackled me" and blanked me! I was gutted.

Also played on Morecambes ground against Adie Mike (shit hot when he was 18, I didnt get close enough to do a 50:50 on him) and Garry Flitcroft. (although wasnt on pitch when he came on, probably due to my first half performance against Adie!)

I met a guy over the weekend who Denis Law did a favour for...
In the early 70's, him and his mates lived near Brooks Bar and they were in the habit of weighing-in any scrap metal and lead they could nick at a scrapyard near O.T. run by Albert Quixhall. One day they were carting this lead there and Denis came out, saw them, and alerted them to the fact that the police were in there, quizzing Albert about his sources.
My mate and his friends panicked but Denis opened his car boot, told them to put the stuff in, and he'd weigh it in for them and told them to wait around and he'd come back to them.
About 30 minutes of waiting later, Denis drove back and handed them a wedge of notes, 3 or 4 times more than Albert would normally have given them.
In due course, they all had words with Albert about how he'd been ripping them off, given the rate Denis Law had been given.
