ROBINHO conjured a special goal to help steer Brazil closer to next year's World Cup finals in a crucial 2-1 qualifying victory over Paraguay in Recife after the home side had fallen behind.

Salvador Cabanas left the favourites trailing with a 25th-minute free kick that took a deflection off Elano and looped over the helpless Julio Cesar, only the second goal Brazil have conceded at home in the current campaign.

But Elano's City team-mate Robinho came to the rescue by volleying in an exquisite equaliser four minutes before the break and striker Nilmar scored a 49th-minute winner to complete the turn-around for Dunga's men.

Brazil can now guarantee their place in South Africa next summer in style by winning their next game in Buenos Aires against great rivals Argentina, who slipped to third in the South American group by losing 2-0 in Ecuador, who are fifth. Four teams go through automatically.

Carlos Tevez, linked with a possible move to the Blues, had a penalty saved by Marcelo Elizaga after 28 minutes. Young City striker Felipe Caicedo started against Diego Maradona's side but was not among the scorers.



Theres a hint that something has been signed and sealed being the scenes if ever I saw one.

I agree, that is strange for the OS to refer to speculation like that.

If Tevez has a contract with Utd up until the 30th June 2009, then I expect he will see it out, and see what offers are on the table. Still looks like we're favourites, but doesn't look like anything is imminent

I doubt it personally - I don't think the people who write stuff for the OS get the inside track until an announcement is imminent, and in any case it's common knowledge that we're interested in Tevez.

So I don't think it means anything. But I could be wrong.

Fact is, talks have taken place and gone really well but nothing signed as yet.

It's frustrating because I got wind we might hear something today. Not sure if Ronaldo going altered that.
