Carlos Tevez has denied telling Sir Alex Ferguson that he planned to quit inside four years during his time at Manchester United.

Old Trafford boss Ferguson made the revelation during United's current tour of the United States.

It came amid continued uncertainty over Tevez's intentions for the new season following the collapse of a proposed move to Corinthians.

Previously, it was felt United backed off from extending an initial two-year 'loan' for Tevez due to the massive costs involved.

Instead the South American went to Manchester City, where he is thought to be the Premier League's highest paid player.

However, he has now fallen out of love with the Blues, citing a desperate desire to see more of his wife and two daughters as the major reason for wanting to quit.

Form of his life

In the past, Tevez has spoken of his willingness to retire, which gives credence to Ferguson's words.

However, the 27-year-old forward has distanced himself from those claims and it is suggested he will continue his career for another eight years.

"At no time did he discuss retiring with the Manchester United management and Mr Ferguson has not mentioned this at any time before," a spokesman for Tevez said.

"In fact Carlos feels he is capable of playing for a further eight years and though he has been in the form of his life, he feels he is only going to get better in the coming years."

Ferguson was quoted in The People as saying Tevez told United he intended to play on for only four years when he discussed a contract at Old Trafford in 2009.

Ferguson said: "He told us at the time of negotiations that he was only going to play for four more years, so if we had signed him on a five-year contract knowing that he was going to quit in four years' time, there is no re-sale value for us."

Two pathological liars, which do you believe?
A difficult question, Tevez seems to talk about retiring every other week but I'd be surprised if he was thick enough to mention it during contract negotiations, on the other hand he does seem to be terminally dense.

Don't know or care about who to believe but I'm glad herman has said this as it could ahave severely affected his value otherwise. Bacon face needs to keep his purple nose out

He's still not got over him coming to us.He conveniently forgets that he did try to sign him in the end but tevez told him where to go, he just pretends it never happened as do a lot of the media I might add. Don't let the truth get in the way of a good dig at City.

party with cake and jelly and icecream

Not sure if you're being sarky there hombre, it's obvious that he's a selfish whining diva **** who's never going to be happy and keep his gob shut anywhere for long, if that hasn't already reduced his value then nothing will.

I wouldn't beleive any of them, bacon face or captain caveman. They both lie like rugs.

1) Only one pathological liar and that is Shakin Bacon (If Baconface right why did Scum offer Tevez five year deal having agreed to meet buy out clause?)
2) Shakin Bacon either getting that old can't remember what is happening or he is trying to get some glory out of the fact rags didn't sign Tevez.
3) Tevez has said he wanted to retire and go back home, family being the most obvious quote.
4) Tevez and Kia know that with a 50m price tag going to be fucking difficult to get any club to stump up that sort of brass with retirement only 3 years away no resale value.
5) The news will play for 8 years and best to come is to tempt new offers, no doubt dawning on Tevez and Kia he is going to have to move fast otherwise going to be another year at City.
6) Half expecting some sort of back peddling about Manchester and being bored because none of the big teams are lining up to buy him. Got to appease ourselves the fans.
7) No doubt the truth is in the above but where god knows.

Scary thought.

Tevez has mentioned retiring at 30 on numerous occasions so taggart can quite happily claim Tevez said this with no comeback.

The counter statement about playing for 8 years is going to fool no one and has been rushed out to demonstrate why buying Tevez for circa £45m is a bargain.

Trouble is I don't think anyone is rushing to buy Tevez at any price let alone what City want for him.

Taggart was no doubt just having some fun by putting the boot in on Tevez but there is a strong possibility that he is right and Tevez will be at City next season.

I have mixed feelings if he stays. Great player but he is boring me to tears with his fucking mood swings. But going into the season with Tevez, Balotelli, Dzeko and Aguero is nothing short of a wet dream.

Just shaking bacon trying to scare suitors away, so we dont receive a huge sum.

You would have thought he would have tried to do the opposite everyone else on the planet reckons we will be 20 goals down on last year without him and city being a one man team will be back mid table without him.

A 'selfish whining diva **** who's never going to be happy and keep his gob shut anywhere' with 8 playing years left in his career is still worth a lot more than a 'selfish whining diva **** who's never going to be happy and keep his gob shut anywhere' with only 2 years left.

My point is that Tevez has shown himself to be a very high maintenance, neither slurgie's comment nor Tevez's denial are likely to change anyone's opinion on that.

Ferguson also bleated on about being harshly treated by refs and the FA again in the Sunday papers.

Twats dont realise they only won the title BECAUSE of refs. All thier away wins were tainted. Get gifts thrown at them and they still moan
