However, Tevez has made public his desire to leave City, citing a breakdown in relations with "certain executives", and has no intention of emulating Wayne Rooney by backtracking and signing a lucrative new contract.

While his request for a transfer will not be withdrawn, despite the club rejecting it, Tevez is prepared to play against Juve in Turin on Thursday night, should Mancini require him to do so. It is believed City would contemplate legal action if Tevez refuses to play, or carries out the underlying threat of retiring if he cannot get the transfer he is demanding. The striker has been on a short authorised break.

However, the forward is adamant he wants to leave City and would be prepared to take the issue to FIFA in order to allow him to resume his career at another club at a future date.

A source said: "The position is crystal clear - Carlos Tevez will return to training on Tuesday and has not refused to play. If he is asked to play on Thursday, he will play, for sure he will. The attitude of the manager, though, might be that he wants to put him on the bench from now until the end of the season, which, of course, is his prerogative.

"If this matter goes to FIFA, then so be it. Any compensation that FIFA might award to City would be less than the amount they can command in the transfer market for the player. It would make sense to sell the player, that is the sensible solution all round. Let's hope the club sees reason."

Sounds like the player is not as forthright as his agent

I'll be very happy to see tevez battling out in a City shirt even if it is just to the Summer. We can then sort it all out in the interest of all parties. There was no need to make all this public, and all it has done is damage the image of the player.

i'd wait for offical comments before reading too much into pure speculation...

Have you got a direct link?-although this would be the tack that Tevez and his agent must take.

Kia seems to think he is in charge of the situation, I'm sure the Sheikh will soon make him feel like he'd never bother to challenge us

Hilarious! I believe we own his registration, so how does fuck off FIFA sound?

If they want a game of brinkmanship, then they should make this absolutely clear we are prepared to let him rot away for 3.5 years.

He should play and the reason is obvious. We can afford to lose this match and it will give the manager a chance to see whether Tevez will work hard or even attempt sabotage.
