Depends what you like, alot of parasites go to pattaya, which is east of bangkok, old us air base. Bangkok is a must for a few days, cheap hotels 4,5 star hotels on sukhumvit rd. Then you can get a internal flight to phuket for about £60 return. There you have alot of options, stay away from patong regarding staying there, katu or karon just down the road are a right spot. If you want elephant rides chang mai is the place. Phi Phi island is a good spot, boat from phuket town, wouldnt stay there too long though, bit more pricey, and alot of johnny tourists.
you then have easy acess to koh phangan and koh samui. Krabi is a good spot also, i think thats where railway beach is.
A nice little number, i always reccomend is koh chang, its basically a Koh samui of ten years ago, its an island on the cambodia side of thailand.

Birds drag you around whereever you are, you'd even get a shag ;).
