Carlos Tevez has expressed his heart-felt thanks to City fans for giving him a second chance.

And the Blues striker, who will lead the team into action at Stoke tomorrow, aims to repay their tolerance with more silverware at the end of the season.

Tevez was given a wary reception by the support following his bust-up with manager Roberto Mancini which led to a self-imposed three-month exile in his native Argentina last season.

But after his February return, a series of committed displays helped City win the Premier League and he revealed he intended to stay with the club.

Tevez has begun the season in scorching form, scoring in all four games so far including the Community Shield, and has won over many supporters who never wanted to see him play for the club again.

He said: “I don’t know if I’m an idol for the City fans, but I am very grateful to them.

“They have always treated me well even after all of the things that were said away from the pitch.

“They have always welcomed me, and for that I am grateful.

“Whatever I do, they make me feel at home and I would like to thank the fans for that.”

Tevez recently said that the row with Mancini had helped him to re-assess his life and his career, and now he is dedicated to winning more with City – and possibly even extending his stay at the club, which is due to end in 2014.

“What I want is to keep winning silverware,” he said. “That is why you train and play – to keep winning trophies – and that pressure will always be there.

“It’s like every Sunday you take an exam.

“In football you have to play a game under pressure.

But I don’t put myself under extra pressure to become a champion – that is just something I want to achieve.”

Key to Tevez’s apparent new-found happiness in Manchester is the fact his family has settled better this time, with a small band of Spanish-speaking players and their families forming a community of their own.

Said Tevez: “Playing football makes me happy – it’s what pleases me.

“Everything related to football makes me happy, but for me there is one more thing, my family, which is the most important aspect of my life.

“It’s my family first and football afterward

Carlos Tevez is a world class player, for that reason he's welcomed by me. The same as Tranny would be.

Helped us win the league with some crucial goals in the closing games to the season. He's a City legend in my eyes and will back him to the hilt as long as he's wearing a sky blue shirt.
