Manchester United's Patrice Evra claims Mario Balotelli would like to quit Manchester City and return to play in his native Italy.
The future of the 22-year-old striker has never been certain from the minute City boss shelled out over £20million to Inter Milan for his signature in summer
And, after Balotelli was left out of the squad for last weekend's 2-1 win against Tottenham amid reports he was out partying 12 hours before the match at the Etihad Stadium, it appeared that he would be put up for sale again in the January transfer window. Balotelli's agent Mino Raiola issued a statement earlier this week to confirm the player wanted to stay put and see out the final three years of his contract at City. However, Evra, has now spoken out to suggest that during his off-the field meetings with Balotelli, the player has told him he would like to go back to his homeland. "Mario really misses Italy," Evra told Italian TV. "I don't know if he will stay in Manchester, because he wants to return to his country. I am not his agent - I am only telling you how he feels. "He is my rival in Manchester - I meet him a lot, I know him well. Off the pitch, we joke around and I take the micky out of him." It is not known if Evra is attempting to rock the boat at City in order to boost United's chances of claiming the Premier League title back from City this season or if he is genuinely reflecting the true feelings of the maverick hitman.
