Rumour has it that during a training session he ran around on the pitch so much blindly that he kept going and before he realised he'd better check where the ball and his other players were he'd ended up in St Etienne! At that point he couldn't be arsed catching a flight home so he just signed a contract.

Don't think he would have gotten the opportunity these season to be honest with the signing of Barry and the players we have in CM/DM. Barry, Ireland, de Jong, Kompany, Elano, etc. Occasional sub appearances at best, if he wants proper development St Etienne offer him that with a starting place in a competitive league each week.
