He went on a riot training exercise, got told he had to take his turban off so he could wear a riot helmet and he refused. He also wanted to sign a disclaimer to say he wouldnt wear a bike helment and the plod righlty said no to him

Nothing to do with creed, coulour or skin......He cant do the job he is paid to do because of self imposed restrictions. Now we have to pay his compo......

I can't believe he won.
I am normally supportive of minorities but even I thought this had gone too far especially as he volunteered for the training. It was not compulsory at all.
The only thing in his favour is that they have special rules in Birmingham for turbans.

It makes it harder to shout down the racists when stupid things like this happen.

I'm always a bit suspicious about issues like this in the media.

Employment tribunals are rarely 5 minute jobs based on a single issue. I've just had a quick google and found a list of other things he was complaining about, including regular racist comments from senior officers and pretty obvious bullying. The turban issue is one that fits easily into a Metro article or in a 2 minute segment on TV news, but appears to be just one of his problems. For all we know the tribunal may have decided that wasn't discrimination, but if they believed the other complaints, about bullying and racist comments, then it's not surprising he won.
