That there London

Arrived in London, popped in a pub and got a pint of Cruzcampo. £7.90! SEVEN POUNDS AND NINETY OF THE KINGS NEW PENCE!
Don't think im going to make the match tomorrow, I need a lie down.

Day before last years I went for a wander down the Southbank side of London town (hoping I'd bump into a Tory MP to punt into the Thames) and stopped off at some pub half way up The Founders it was called, the current Mrs Lowtower wanted a wine - £9!

Those pubs on the South Bank, especially near the Tate Modern and The Globe, are tourist central and therefore priced as such!
There are some relatively reasonably priced pubs as long as you stay away from the touristy areas and the City of London.
As others have mentioned, the Sam Smiths pubs are all reasonable. I often frequent several pubs in the small "Craft Beer Co." group and their prices are on a similar level to real ale pubs in Manchester.

I'm (honestly) not a beer snob but Cruzcampo is pretty crap in this country. I had some in Spain earlier this year, thought it was decent so was more than happy to get some from Tesco's.

Problem is that it's different to the the Spanish one. So it doesn't taste the same nor do you get the enjoyable buzz that you get from the marginally stronger Spanish version.

Off topic but do we have a beer thread?

Should of gone to aldi..

As @staffsblue says the Craft Beer Co places are good, and there is decent beer around a fiver to be had outside the worst of the chains (Nicholson's the main culprit). Sam Smiths put their London prices up sharply a few years back, same time as a pint of OBB went from £2 to £3 in one go !

I had a gorgeous pint of Manchester's finest (Marble Stout) for £4.90 at the Euston Tap not six months ago.

I love the Euston Tap, especially when it's not raining and you can sit outside. However, the spiral staircase up to the loos requires concentration once you've had a few!
The Doric Arch (Fullers pub) outside Euston is also reasonable, and offers CAMRA membership discount. Just don't go to the sister pub "The Signal Box" within the station unless you enjoy being ripped off.
