The 25 most defining games in our history

These should include those games that actually represent the very nature of Manchester City rather than just great results.

We are about loyalty, enduring spirit, integrity, wanting to win but not at all cost, and above all staying true to what we love whilst maintaining hope in adversity,

13th May 2012 encapsulates all of that and more.

The defining point for me personally was the Blackburn 2-0 game in the FA cup. It was the moment I realised I'd never see City win anything...

ahem
I'm setting off to see City at Wembley (CITY AT WEMBLEY!!!??!!!) for the 6th time in about 45 mins

Fenerbarche surely rather than Napoli?

The turning point of the 1998/99 Season 2-1 v Stoke or the 2-0 away v Boro when in free fall in 2007, similar the 3-1 at the Reebok in 2004 first league win for about 4/5 months.

Indeed!

Also surely games like this should be in the list:

First league game at Hyde Road, 7-0 win v Bootle
Record crowd at Hyde Road, [officially]41709 (said to be much more, with fans four yards inside the pitch lines all round the pitch), at a time when football attendances were nowhere near this big
1904 FA Cup final
Last game at Hyde Road, v Newcastle
First game at Maine Road, v SheffU (58159 attendance)
The first 1-6 at Old Trafford, 1926
Record crowd at Maine Road, [officially]84569 v Stoke
1934 FA Cup final
0-5 at Old Trafford, 1955 (they won the league that season, so no mean feat)

Almost every City game could be viewed as a defining moment - think of Bournemouth in 1989 and how that hit us at the time and is remembered today. Looking at pre-Maine Rd you'd need to add Burnley 1921 - Burnley had established the record number of games without defeat, City were 2nd in the table and expected to be humiliated, the Hyde Rd ground was bursting with fans (photos in my books of fans sat on roofs; stories of gates being smashed down etc.), and around 55,000 are believed to have been in a stadium that struggled to hold 40,000. The Blues won the match (but finished 2nd to Burnley) but the game was one of the deciding factors in building Maine Road and became 'the' Hyde Road game all fans remembered.

Other Hyde Rd games worth highlighting include the Kings visit in 1920 (first time a reigning monarch had attended a League game and a provincial football match), the derby immediately after the Nov 1920 Hyde Road fire which established the rivalry aspect of the Manchester derby etc.

Not a bad list and it proves one thing I have long suspected. I am the kiss of death. All the games I have seen and depressingly few are on this list, 25, 26, 27, 29 and 42.

I can produce an extensive list of games I was at when we were really shit though.

Anyone said the Arsenal game at the Emirates when we went 8 points behind United and Balotelli got a red card?

Khaldoon said he went to the dressing room post game and he and Mancini basically hatched a plot to publicly concede the title to United to take pressure off the team.

Watford 0-0 at home under Pearce, worst game of football i have ever seen
