The 5-1 or the 6-1

Well Fellow Blues, what a day. There's something however that I can't quite make my mind up about - which was the better feeling, yesterday or the 5-1 at Maine Road.

Slamming 6 past them at their place was an unbelievable result for sure.
That we destroyed them live on TV in front of the whole world was something else.

On the other hand, when we played them back in 1989 we had a weakened team and they had a pretty strong outfit having just spent loads of money on the likes of Pallister, Ince and Wallace. They were expected to give us a good hiding that day. The other thing about that result was that City had quite a few young lads who had come up through our Youth system.

Before the game yesterday I fully expected us to get something out of the match. In 1989 I didn't give us a hope in hell. Both tremendous results, but for slightly different reasons.

Finally, something else I noticed yesterday. Amidst all the talk about it being the Rags' heaviest home defeat since 1955 no-one in the media appears to have mentioned which team inflicted it. If I'm not mistaken it was City, 5-0.

Had a bet on Fowler first goal, Fowler and 3 V 1 and 3 v 1.

At 89 minutes I am counting £965 until SWP scores a beauty.

Yesterday at 88 mins my 28/1 for 3 v 1 was looking good.£280

How good was that last 3 minutes, I would have paid £280 for that never mind not winning it.

6-1 for me.

5-1 was brilliant but totally unexpected.
In the build up to yesterdays game, we had all the usual tripe from thier ex players and others, not played anyone yet /blah blah blah.

Would have been delighted with 3-1 but the final 3 goals were pure joy. Hopefully we have destroyed abit of thier aura and other teams will see how weak they can be if you attack them and other teams now have a real go like Norwich did

The 5-1 was a better team performance, however it kind of came out of the blue(we had lost twice in London the week before(Wimbledon and Brentford)), so as such was an amazing feeling. This game..... it was more a case with the world looking on the question was asked "we know your good, but how good?" I guess the world got it's answer..... quite good ;-))
A little like when your in the playground and the school bully who has being bullying kids for the last 20 years ...... the 5-1 was a sucker punch that knocked him to the ground......great feeling and all the other kids love you. Yesterday was looking him in the eye and simply beating the crap out of him....great feeling, but the other kids are now scared of you too!

They both rate very closely for me but in terms of the feeling/dreaming etc it had to be yesterday to do it in their back yard made it all the sweeter. I was only 15 in 1989 but that was my first derby which will live with me forever.

I have to be honest though in terms of meaning something the semi in April is still number 1 as it meant those t***s didn't prevent us winning our first trophy in my lifetime-bar 76 when I was 2! Also April was my 10yr old lads first derby and first trip to wembley so I have a lot of sentiment for all 3 games

1-6 shades it for me from the 3-1,4-1 and the 5-1, mainly because it was at their place right in front of their 'support' and for all the world to see.

Unquestionably 6-1 just for the shock and awe. I'll never forget the looks on the Blues faces around me whilst we were held back at the end.

I swear there was a Blue behind me who, when they nicked their consolation goal, said he'd settle for a draw now.

I have to admit that when they scored I was thinking "Oh no, if they get another one we'll then have 7 or 8 minutes of Fergie time". So relieved when the 4th went in. After all these years it's taking a while to adjust to being confident about these things.

The 6-1 was so much more significant. The 5-1 was brilliant but it was unexpected and we knew it was likely to be a one-off. Plus we were both around 7th in the table at the time and we finished 14th, one place behind them. So there wasn't that much at stake bar bragging rights.

Yesterday we were fighting out at the top and I don't think that's ever happened before in a derby (we were 2nd and 3rd in 1968). Plus they've dominated the PL since 1992 so are a much different proposition that they were in Sept 1989 and no one had ever inflicted that sort of humiliation on them at the swamp before in the competition. We made a huge statement of intent yesterday, which wasn't the case in 1989.

It also confirmed that there is an element of 'emperor's new clothes' about them, which has been apparent for a few weeks. There's no depth in the squad whatever they may say, Evans is surely finished and there must be serious question marks around Ferdinand. They've nothing in central midfield and rely totally on the wide-men to create anything. If you can nullify them as we did, they've nothing.

The "White Pele" (surely the Scouse Bob Taylor would be a more fitting description on that display yesterday) barely got a kick and was reduced to chasing shadows in his own half trying to find the ball. Surely a corner has een turned and teams simply won't be as frightened of them anymore. plus it remains to be seen what impact it has on them as well, as those players haven't experienced that sort of humiliation in front of their own fans before.

Yesterday reminded me of my school days, when we had a class bully. To be fair, he wasn't the worst bully in history as he didn''t really pick on people as bullies do but he used his size and attitude to intimidate people. If you did his bidding he was generally OK with you. One day he pissed off the wrong guy, who was bigger than him but not normally aggressive. He got a good hiding and the whole dynamic changed. The former bully was so humiliated he didn't intimidate anyone anymore and no one was that firghtened of him anyway. All his "friends" deserted him and one even grassed on him for stealing. So the 5-1 was an irritant but it dodn't stop their march to the top. The 6-1 could have been the start of the downhill section.

It will be interesting to see how Baconface's former friends, the ones he could rely on to lie down and hand him three points, react now. Everton will be a big test for them on Saturday. if there isn't the promised "reaction" then things could really get interesting.
