The 90s. What could have been

There was a time when we were vaguely rumoured to be interested in Les Ferdinand- at the time he was at QPR.
I remember seeing the MEN board that said: Les says City.
Note the deliberate omission of any speech marks. Huge difference between
Les says, “City” .
“Les” says City.
Definitely a case of the latter rather than the former.
 
Ah the two 5th places and a 9th, 11 year old me was full of optimism back then. Just felt we were one player away from something happening. Personally I reckoned Robbie Earle would have been the missing piece for us back then but if only Paul Lake's injury had not happened.

I was a kid and had gone with my dad a few times under Horton and was excited by the players - Flitcroft, Summerbee, Beagrie, Walsh, Quinn, Rosler, even Lomas coming through.

Got our season tickets the season after and Ball was brought in and all our best players seemed to be sold. I couldn't understand it at the time, truly bizarre that they were replaced by utter shite - Clough, Craig Russell, Lee Bradbury, Gerry Creaney ffs
