The Album Review Club - Christmas Break Until 8th January

In terms of influence..

'Over 600 musicians have released their own recordings of songs written by Dylan, creating more than 1,500 covers of nearly 300 unique songs.'

Odd maths aside, full list here. Impressive.

Leonard Cohen has probably had a fair few of his covered, think though the only comparable one in terms of amount of songs covered are the Beatles. And that's excluding the 7 Oasis albums ;).

Apart from "Subterranean" I have never really got into anything old RZ has done and dont own any of his albums..so yet another realtively new "fresh" one for me.
My first thoughts were that someone gave lil Bobby a harnonica for Christmas and he thought, I must use this every chance I get!
Little snippets of the harmonica maybe but I did think it went a little over the top.
One listen in out of the 3...... Hope it's Ok to use the number 3 in a post?

Happy gritterman day @Black&White&BlueMoon Town .

A couple days late, I did not want to distract from the album at hand, having already had a tangent here.

However given the thread is gathering dust on page 3 and it it is almost changeover day, it is that specific time of the year, and prior discussions on book to album adaptations.. here's a loose side suggestion for people to try kicking off their cold December with Orlando Weeks' Gritterman album. All wintery and Christmassy and generally lovely. While we conclude the last of this week's (unintended pun) impressions.

Its coz we are all embracing Bob and his harmonica. Folk also spending more time on the actual football thread and marvelling at a new found interest in covered bridges

Feels like this thread might be going the way of City’s performances.

We might need re-inforcements in January.

Yeah but we've got OB1, who is in effect the thread's De Bruyne, back up next so we should be fine, no pressure OB1. That said if he does go a bit recent City (nominates the Wombles?) then yes we might be in a bit of trouble.

So of the 14 songs on Blonde on Blonde I really quite like 9 of them. 9 out of 14 is a pretty good hit rate you'd think; but the problem is I don't want to listen to them one after the other. Partly because in some cases they do outstay their welcome and partly because I've always found it quite hard to listen to Dylan for a full album anyway. The song writing is, if not beyond reproach, then certainly pretty good; so it becomes a question of the best way to engage with it.

So I changed the habit of a thread time and listened to this in bite size chunks. this probably constitutes cheating but it markedly improvement my enjoyment and appreciation. Nonetheless I feel I have to knock a little bit off for having to wrangle it a bit so 7/10 for me.

Being compared to KDB, that might be the best compliment ever!

Like Bobby Z my chosen act for tomorrow might be a bit Marmite but I will be rolling out one of my favourite albums. I’ll post an actual clue tomorrow.

Certainly agree with that, although I don't have a long history of listening to his albums. But little chunks would have been better. Listening with the wife in the car, she made a comment about them often sounding the same with the guitar...and mouth organ
