The Album Review Club - End of Round #9 Break (page 1904)

Hope it's not too late as I've been too busy to listen to Josh Ritter, but managed to listen to it this morning

I quite liked it, some decent songs on there and a nice variety.

7/10

Nothing wrong with a bit of trad.
It has it’s place of course….
In the pub after 5 pints of Guinness.
I agree hence my OJO acronym.

I have a channel dedicated to it on a Friday evening and I kid myself my misses still thinks I watch it for the music however she knows the truth.

I like it live. Not so much to listen to an album. Being out for a few pints and a session sets up in the corner though. There’s nothing better.

I know Palmer gets dissed a lot and maybe he deserves it but I love his version of Bad Case of Loving You and a lot of his other stuff.
I really liked his early stuff, I remember in the hot summer of 76 driving around in my triumph spitfire with a cassette of ‘Pressure Drop’ on one side and The Dan’s ‘Pretzel Logic’ on the other, till the tape machine ate it!

I love All Mixed Up and especially Bye Bye Love (I always sing “It’s just a fuckin’ lullaby” instead of “broken lullaby”) from the first record; the whole thing is great. It’s also on that Larkin list, and I always liked Candy-O a little more. I also like Panorama and played it a lot when it came out, but it’s a bit slower. I do love “Since You’re Gone” from “Shake It Up” too. These boys could write a hook for sure. Also agree “Lust For Kicks” is the throwaway here — not one of their better efforts.

I like all The Cars' albums.

The first I bought was either Shake it Up or Candy-O: I both those and Panorama on vinyl and all of them on cd.

I think I'll go with 8/10 for Candy-O. I'ts not quite a 9. I'll play it some more though.

I might be first cab of the rank for this one largely because I don't need to play it again and again as I have done so for over 40 years now.

I might be slandered for being biased and deservedly so because I am such a huge fan of Ric O from his Richard and the Rabbits days ( what a name for a group ) onwards.

If it was Panorama it would be a 9 but its an 8 for me and anybody who loves power pop / rock or new wave should have this album in their collection.

My only regret is I never saw the Cars live but my collection more than makes up for it.

Not a weak track on the whole album for me and they all compliment each other to a nicety , the production is right on the money.

The Cars are one band I never saw live either, which is a pity.
