I assume the whole universe knows "Falling Slowly" if I do, but I'm going to need to find a very quiet nook this (long, over here) weekend for this record.
My favo(u)rite movie soundtrack (meaning one with effectively original songs written for the movie) is probably "Amelie", but the main reason for that is just how much I dig the film. Young Audrey Tautou, yow.

Bit of a Czech connection and I know this quite well. Will give it a few listens again though as I haven't heard it for a while. Good choice!

Gave this a refresh listen for fairness, on the off chance I might rate it different to what I first thought I would when it was put forward. But when my mind's made up, there's no point trying to change it, so I'll stick with my gut 8.
Nice album with reworked songs from his band's previous repertoire. For me the wee wifey adds something for the film, but not so much for the recored album. I know the two of them went on to record a few more albums as The Swell Season, and they were good, I still prefer the early Frames stuff the most. He does like to get quite shouty, and with a conventional band behind him it works best imo.
The album is enjoyable on its own merit, as a good audio reminder of the film, a d as a good gateway into mostly Glen Hansard's work which is quite expansive.

Really enjoyed listening to this again.
I like them in The Swell Season (and I believe they have some tour dates lined up this year) but overall I do prefer this album. Irglová's voice somewhat softens Hansard's tendency to get a bit shouty and the tracks I enjoy the most are where they are both singing.
Obviously Falling Slowly is the best known track but I actually find Lies to be my favourite. If You Want Me and When Your Mind's made up are also fine tracks. I'm going to watch the film again as well as I seem to remember the music fit it very well.

Falling Slowly is the best known song and is quite nice but I actually think there’s better songs on this album.
I quite like her voice and If You Want Me is really nice as are all the songs where they both sing.
There are a couple of filler s on this album that may have been great in the film but don’t really do it for me. Glen can tend to shout a lot when conveying emotion and it’s not always where he’s at his best. I think the last song in particular, it’s not just his voice, but the guitar bashing doesn’t work with it in my view.
The middle of this album
Is beautiful; songs 4-7 but I find Falling From The Sky a bit weaker.
I love the guitar on Gold.
Leave is highly emotional and by and large works, but Trying To Pull Myself Away comes as a welcome break from just Glen and the guitar. I think this is the best stand alone song on the album. I really like the arrangement in it.
All The Way Down and Once are lovely but ending on Say It To Me Now, brings the standard down again.
I am enjoying this album a lot more than I expected to and will stretch my score to a 7, but can’t go higher, because of two or three weak links.
