The Album Review Club - Week #147 - (page 1942) - Blonde On Blonde - Bob Dylan

What can I say? Agree with @mancity1 -- respect the guy as an artist, but never really liked his music that much. Recall he got popular over here during disco.
go back in time and listen to this record. It is far far away from his disco phase. Ronnie Wood, Ronnie Lane and Kenney Jones were the band members. Stewart made the album not that long after he gave up grave digging. Listen and tell me there is nothing in it you like.

Yes, it does diminish their achievement for me.

But that's a personal thing and I'm not saying that they haven't earned their place in music history. Elton John writes catchy melodies, Aretha Franklyn had an amazing voice, ditto Elvis along with incredible swagger. All incredible artists .............. but I'd rather listen to an artist like Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle or John Hiatt who are writing their own songs.

Having a good voice, being known by millions or being a brilliant piano or guitar player does not trump being able to write and perform articulate songs.
In some cases it absolutely does which is why those I listed are legends of music and although I like her music very much, Lucinda Williams isn't.

He was a lot better when he started and I'm surprised you dismiss this album without (seemingly) knowing it. You seem to like arrangements, instruments such as mandolins and 'gritty' music. This has it in spades. Anyway, whatever. I'm hardly qualified to preach about musical prejudices.
Just had a listen to this an enjoyed it, particularly "Mandolin Wind", which I hadn't heard before.
The various stringed instruments did sound good and you are correct, it was well arranged.

A fantastic album generating a lot of good discussion. Two 7's, Five 8's, Four 9's and a 10 - 16 votes in total for an average of 7.44 and it's more than enough to give Lucinda Williams' Car Wheels on a Gravel Road third place in the overall table.

Well done @bennyboy for a great nomination.

Now over to @KnaresboroughBlue for some clues to this week's choice.

Oh bugger. Give me an hour or two to make my final decision. I've been agonising over my choice for a few weeks now but wasn't sure when my turn was coming round.

Will either be another of my favourite classical pieces, an old favourite playing this particular artist's well known songs in a very different way, or something very, very different from my usual taste!

All are fantastic in their own way and for very different reasons. Just can't decide which to go with. Suggestions for which of the 3 to choose are welcome!

I’m curious about the second option, particularly with Rob’s comments about covers. There‘s an album by an artist i love that fits this , I’m wondering if it’s the same one.

They are not covers. They are mainly the artist's own songs but performed in a very different way. Probably worded it badly due to trying not to disclose if the artist was male or female. Very well known artist and songs, so the only new thing would be in the way they are performed.

I'm hoping for either 8bit chiptune or washboard and spoons versions, but I'm guessing more likely to be with an orchestra?

No. Not with an orchestra (or washboard and spoons). Not even decided if that is the one yet. Struggling to choose which one, so was just fishing to see if fellow posters would help make my mind up for me (I'm not known for my decisiveness)!

Ah right, not what I was thinking of then, however I do like it when an artist reinterprets their own songs.
