The Album Review Club - Week #147 - (page 1942) - Blonde On Blonde - Bob Dylan

I'm really sorry but I love Bob Dylan's songs...but not sung by him. He's a BRILLIANT songwriter, a genius of the 20th Century without question. However, every single cover version of his songs ever recorded sounds better than his version - Like A Rolling Stone excluded. His version of LARS on this album is awful, the only good part was the band. I've tried a couple of Dylan albums from these threads now and his voice just kills the songs for me. I just can't get past his voice, it just grates with me. To be fair, it always has done and I don't it will ever change.

When Mr Tambourine Man came on and he started singing I just thought to myself is this was a tribute band, I'd have walked out. It's just really poor. The songs themselves are genius though and I'd loved to have heard these sung by the likes of the The Byrds, Beatles, Roberta Flack, Gladys Knight etc etc. Dylan is a master of the word, but he just can't sing them.

All that said, I did like the arrangements it was something different and helped to take away my attention from his voice. I do quite like it when you see someone live and they put a different twist on a song.

I don't like giving low scores, particularly when it means so much to you personally Knaresborough but I'm afraid it's just not my cup of tea this.

3/10.

I personally disagree with that comment. For example, I love the way he sings this brilliant love song, he sings it with such emotion.

Anyway, it's all opinions.
I will excuse myself from scoring this album as I never listen to live albums, I just don't like them.

Fuck you.
I’ve continuously expressed my dislike for scoring on Musical opinion. But no one gave a shit.

Give a score, you pussy.

I generally agree with this. I think I only have 3 live albums and I don't listen to them much.
There is one live album that is excellent and very special to me, but in general I'd rather listen to the studio versions.
You can't recreate the experience of a love show in your living room or in the car - the whole point of a live show is that you are there experiencing it.

Hmmm pretty sure we've all created a few love shows in the living room and the car.

Sorry pathetically childish but it is Friday :-)
