The Album Review Club - Week #147 - (page 1942) - Blonde On Blonde - Bob Dylan

Sorry ladies, been a bit side tracked this week and completely missed it was my turn and my well written and completely scathing attack on Mr Dylan live shall never now see the light of day. I think I gave it a 3 for trying something different. And failing miserably.

Anyhoo...

I'll try and remember for November!
No problem. Given that you mentioned November, I guess you've probably looked on page #1 and saw that I swapped you with Coatigan. So 24th November it is.

I've never heard of the band, or what sadly happened to the vocalist. Truth be told, I wasn't expecting too much for some reason but I think the album cover looked moody and maybe miserable. The band name sounded a bit "6th-former" which put me of... However, you give it a go and see what comes up!

Anyway, I had some time tonight at work and put this on in the background. And I thought it was a really good album. Obviously I've only had one listen but I thought the songs were well put together, were interesting and there was enough variation on the album without it loosing cohesiveness (if you get me).

I quite liked thee fact I could dip in and out of it. When I wanted to listen to it I could, but when I needed to concentrate it was really nice background music. Normally for me I find rock/indie albums harder to listen to at work when I need to concentrate so this was a really pleasant find.

It did remind me of some other bands, but that didn't put me off. I can't tell you exactly they reminded me of but there was hints of other bands throughout the album but they definitely have their own sound.

This is definitely an album I will put on in future and I think I'll explore more of their work to be honest.

I'll give this an 8 - another pearl from this thread!

I’ve had two listens already, on a loop.
The fact I put it on second time directly after the first is a good sign to start with.
I was reading the lyrics first time around and yes they are dark, particularly after @Coatigan giving us the back story, but they are very poignant and personal and easily understood. Quite sad, and yet the music isn’t.
Very good background music that I will have no trouble listening to for the week and yes….. They definitely reminded me of The Maccabees.

Can you sort it via the last column?

I'm not the most miserly!

I think there is a vein of melancholy that runs through every Scot that this guy tapped into through the authenticity and honesty Of his lyrics. Really quite vivid but bleak.I have listened to it through three or four times but need more. Watched them live performing these songs on YouTube, including Glastonbury 2016.
I don’t know why but I wish some of their music didn’t remind me of Snow Patrol who I have an aversion to.
intriguing. Not sure where I will end up with this one as I feel different about the album each time I play it.

Listening now. Never heard this band before.
Not exactly what I was expecting from the write up.

First impression immediately is - The Maccabees. Given to the Wild album.
Similar feel and vocals.

Interesting. Wondered if anyone would say that. Between the two albums, there are definite similarities. Including softened vocals.

Between the two bands however, imo, not at all.

Their midnight organ fight is more what they are like as a band. The three songs i mentioned (the whole album really kind of is a break-up album) are worth a go.

All good observations. Or whatever the audio equivalent is.

The Quay Sessions is worth a watch, that version of Things is really good. as is the Modern Leper as part of the same set.
