The Album Review Club - Week #147 - (page 1942) - Blonde On Blonde - Bob Dylan

If only Dylan could sing like this. I'm loving it so much that I've just bought a few of his albums on vinyl, this one, Stormcock and Born In Captivity.
Result! Half a song in, he definitely sounds like Dylan to me, only less nasal.

That made me laugh (in a good way). I've just looked at Wikipedia and in fairness it does say 'folk rock' or are you of the view that is an oxymoron ? :-)

to your subsequent post I would suggest 'How does it feel?' is the equal of any of Dylan's more famous songs
Yes I am of the view that that is an oxymoron :)

My enduring question is “How did Roy Harper not take off in the US?” I’m sure those who know him have a good answer but it’s surprising given the quality of his music.

When the monologue bit came on, I thought spotify had swapped the album to a ricky gervais podcast (regional accent difference excluded, for the purposes of my metaphor)

You could equally ask why he is not better known in his own country too? I'm more of a casual listener than an aficionado but everything I've ever read about him suggests he completely marched to the beat of his own drum and just wasn't up for playing the game. He was going to do what he was going to do and if the record company (or the fans) didn't like it then they could sod off. I think by his own admission he could be 'hard work' in his younger days. There are multiple tales of him getting annoyed with the audience/promoter or whoever else he felt was under appreciating him at live shows and just doing what suited him. I do also wonder if there was an element that his views/lyrics would be viewed as too confrontational/challenging for some markets though I would have thought that less of an issue in the 70s? Maybe DLBH can elaborate?

It has only taken 55 weeks to put forward the second openly City supporting act.

Does this imply we might have closeted City supporting acts? I've now got visions of an aging Dylan and Willie Nelson having a tab at The Townley and regularly causing mayhem in SS1 but having to do it all in disguise lest they are tainted by their association with our infamous dirty oil money regime.

I mean what did You think the lyrics meant?

Debruyne, ran through me
Bernardo, subdued me
Riyad, untie me
I'm empty, plese Phil me

On the corner, the Jul is sleepless,
we found your weekness
And it's right outside your box..
