The Album Review Club - Week #191 (page 1286) - Harlequin Dream - Boy & Bear

Remember, THIS was YOUR week! ;-)

How's that cruise going? I bet you've been able to toast more today from last night's (expected) results than I have. :-))
It’s not a cruise —I’m giving a speech at a conference (even though I’m retired) but the company hosting me is springing for my trip! At the airport right now in fact! Bummer is I’ll miss our match today. Thanks for taking my week — just thought I’d be a bit busy writing but got it done a bit earlier than planned.

Last night was a relief more than anything.

You said you there was a connection to this in some way in your Gorilla Manor review? I am curious!
Yes, I mentioned the country my next artist/band was mentioned on a song there.

From "Cubism Dream":

So in Australia, on halloween
I proved what our love meant to me
The suffering, the struggling
I did it for you
I did it for me

Don't get me wrong, it was minor (France and Japan was also referenced on that album), but given we didn't need a passport today and in its simplest terms that first image was of a boy and bear, I figured this could be quick. I Googled "bear band" beforehand, and they came right up. Mrbelfry got the album hint first, and then Gornik got the band taking us over midfield, but then it came to a crashing halt again. My kids played Mindcraft and "Dream" was a character there.

Perhaps Rob has heard that already, and if he hasn’t, I would highly recommend it (post-edit: given Rob knows this album, it sounds like he does).
I don't think I have but I'll check it out as part of this week's listen.

Would you believe that, being the shallow person I am, I bought this album based on the following criteria, never having heard a song off it:-

1. That magnificent album cover.
2. The fact that I read they were Australian.
3. That magnificent album cover (technically the same criteria as #1, but so important to the purchase that I thought I'd mention it twice).

OK, I probably read a review and found out that there were mandolins and banjos involved, but the above is mostly true.

It's a while since I've played it so I'll look forward to the re-listen.

I considered that as a playlist theme.. songs off albums you bought purely for their cover. But felt no other fud might have done that

Yeah, I loved 1 and 3 too when I first saw and heard of them, but couldn't pick a track for the Playlist, and then said "I'll just have it all".

Yeah, I had high hopes for you on this, and at least one other poster here, who I will not yet mention, for extra pressure no one needs. ;-)

I went too far round, got distracted by gorilla manor references (Colorado, Japan, Catalina, Australia) and kinda stopped looking at the pictures where the main gist was.
Me too! BAWBTMT wasn’t lying when he said the band clue was right in front of us! Still should get a yellow card for the record clue IMO :)

I think we might be, what is colloquially referred to as, 'too clever for our own good' mate ;)

I had the obvious originally in my back pocket,

but I figured the first one was pretty straightforward as it was RIGHT THERE! Mrbelfry got the album clue an hour before the band was mentioned and I already liked that post, so VAR says clearly no yellow card. ;-)

One other note, unlike last week's band, this one is still active and releasing new material.

Boy & Bear's upcoming album Tripping Over Time is due out in 36 days, 12 hours.... on 12/12 (valid nomenclature in any country) and the first 3 tracks are pre-released on Spotify. I'm still partial to their 2nd album, but maybe I get to see them if they tour in the US this go-round.

Touring early 2026.Dates in the UK.
Another new group for me.
Hope there is no wailing this time.

Two dates in Canada on the way over and skipping the US. Can't say I blame them there.

I was hoping this would be the case for most here. Wish we had a few more Aussies still with us here on a more regular basis to chime in. @southamptonblue?
They remind me a bit of an artist you've nominated here with some influences, but not saying they're the same or that should stop you from donning the torpedo hat.

Having to use AI to get it though. As such, let’s call it a yellow for dissent/diving/misbehaving rather than violent conduct!
