The Album Review Club - Week #194 (page 1303) - Ants From Up There - Black Country, New Road

Smacking your kid is against the law in Scotland. Hence 'if you don't behave you're going to Carlisle' might be something a jock might shout to their kids..

Now even I don't find it that funny!

Blimey, I didn't realise it wasn't completely illegal in England and NI until just now!

No I got what you meant and I agree. She is definitely consistently a bit off key. Covers over it in various styles.

But I do totally get the unavoidable voice comparisons though, it is the back of throat deeper singinf, and the delivery. I'll be honest, I find Flo's voice far more comfortable. I could never get into LG. It is a bit, 'Sleep Token with a Wailing Wifey' for me.

Ouch. The Sleep Token comparison is one I'd never have thought of but I suppose I can see what you mean, sort of. In reality I think they're much more concise and restrained than ST. I think Hannah Reid can be a little bit one dimensional at times but a wailing wifey I'd not say.

LG as a band are the musical equivalent of the women I used to be unhealthy attracted to in my younger years. Low key, beautiful but with a level of emotional detachment to them that at times went beyond simple restraint into a kind of darker desolation.

Edit: that second paragraph sounds a bit Swiss Tony but I remember the first I heard this album my immediate thought was this sounds like X. Not that she would have liked it but that it sounded 'like' her.

I should probably put the shovel down now.

Had a bit of a deja vu.

See no.7, and my 4th paragraph hefore. We have stood on this bridge before!

Satanic Satanist followed by Church Mouth probably my favourite of their albums, if that helps.
Hmm, I wonder what I made of them then. When you posted about them today it rang a very vague bell. Can honestly say I thought I'd never heard of Local Natives before

LONDON is a shithole, no one will ever convince me otherwise. The facebook/ forum 'GRAMMAR police'

Short write up of how I discovered it, and like it to follow in bit.....I'm starving, food first! ;)
He confirmed it in a response to my naming it. I think.

Is it just me , or did they rip off "All Along The Watchtower" with "When We Were Young"?

I've heard 'Strong' a few times, assumed that was a cover for some reason.
Not heard anything else.
revert back in a week.
