The Album Review Club - Week #195 (page 1310) - A New World Record - ELO

I've got a couple more in mind, but will hold off as I feel reasonably confident with my first guess.

Unless it is a Fog-like clue overloaded with accidental distractions.

Sorry to be a Noel fanboy once again - but really love this one - by far his best solo effort and felt it deserves a nomination

His first solo (self titled) after Oasis didn’t really work, it felt rushed and a mish mash of old stuff and finding his feet as a solo artist , his new stuff is ok , bit radio 2 friendly although if you could mix some tracks of his other solo albums you could get a real amazing list - ‘AKA What A Life’, ‘Dead In The Water’ ‘If I had a Gun (my wedding song) and loads more for example.

Here though , he really hits the spot , classy tracks and some that reminded me of Oasis B Sides (better than there A sides on occasions)

Noel isn’t quite in the musical gods as so many others before him - he’s not the best guitarist, or lyricist etc and there’s nothing much here that’s groundbreaking but he does have a knack of finding a melody and making great songs - ‘Dying of the light’ his best acoustic track since Talk Tonight, ‘Lock All The Doors’ and ‘You Know We Can't Go Back’ are the most Oasis’ish of old tunes - Liam on vocals for these would make them even better

‘Riverman’ and ‘The Right Stuff’ are really cool tracks , love the pace of these.

Apologise for a boring predictable pick , but for those not heard it , hope you enjoy!

I've never heard a NG solo album, so this works nicely for me. Cheers.

Me neither. Or even listened an Oasis album for that matter. I get why they are popular, I get why they are rated. I get that they are blues. Butn) for some reason I could never get into Oasis, and as such, never even attempted either's solo stuff. So this now puts a change to that.

You’ve never heard Morning Glory album ?!
It was unavoidable at one point

Looking forward to this. N3ver heard a Noel album but back in the day I used to wind up a southern mate who preferred Blur by telling him Oasis would be enormous and Blur would go down as a Kinks tribute band…

As someone who can take or leave Oasis, I've never really listened properly to any of the solo work either of them have produced so this will be interesting.

Pretty much agree with everything youve said here....and this is up there with some of my all time favourite albums
Dont want to do a review just yet as im interested to hear what others think....specifically those who say they havent listened to him much before.
IMO, and yours, this is definitely his best album....and it plays as an album too, rather than just a collections of songs.
Anyway, will wait for a while before reviewing....but itll be a high mark anyway :-)
