So I've got teenage kids, most of their music is pretty non descript. But there's the odd good one that comes up on the Spotify playlists they play in the car.

I'm a guitar player and oldest son also plays and is getting pretty good. One of the songs he plays is 'what once was' its of the above album and has a really nice vibe to it. That's how I got into these. Iike much of the album, it has a kind of classic surf rock mixed in with a more modern American collage rock sound that suits the baritone vocals. And the guitar tones are great. Other stand outs for me are 'cool with you' and 'marcel'. I assumed this was a US band but its an English guy and Norwegian who met at uni in Liverpool!

This album is the first of two that they have released. But there won't be any more. I'll let you find out the back story if your interested. Or just listen to the album.

And if you want more on them good live stuff on YouTube. They play two guitars with drums via a drum machine when live, that's how the kids roll now. You've got to keep up.

Interesting choice. Heard a few things which I never really explored, so I’ll give this a good listen.
I don’t wish to be pedantic, but it’s Her’s not The Her’s ;)
 
Heard of these, likewise as a result of one my teenage kids maybe they are more popular than I assumed. Not heard this album just bits of them, think it's this lot I had to roll-out my falsetto to explain how Minnie Riperton should be sung - would be fair to say the kids didn't agree but I always make sure the car is moving too fast for them to exit before I display my vocal stylings.
 
Songs of Her’s – Her’s

The album kicks off with the pleasing, jangly “Dorothy”, but after that I didn’t hear anything that I truly liked. There are some pleasant keyboards, the vocals are dreamy, and the songs pass by inoffensively for the most part.

It seems to be stuck in some 50s/60s time warp but with the added “bonus” of drum machines. It lacks any bite or grit (i.e. it doesn’t feature too many interesting chord changes, the sound is too smooth, and the lyrics don’t grab my interest). The guitar is OK on “Medieval” and “You Don’t Know This Guy”, with some more intricate or dramatic chords than elsewhere, but I just don’t like the vocals.

If any song is too long at six minutes, its “Cool with You”.

It’s very sad reading that they died at such a young age. At least they are getting their week in the sun on Blue Moon.

Short, sweet, not terrible, just OK. 6/10.
