Hah!John Peel’s favourite band…. What did he know! ;)
My first Fall gig was the Hacienda in 1983. The same gig where the magnificent Tempo House was recorded for Perverted by Language.I first saw The Fall in 1979 at Hazel Grove youth club, Yvonne Pawlett on keyboards. Brilliant album, brilliant front man, and a Blue, rip Mark.
This is the answer.I'm beginning to think I might come to the conclusion that The Fall are essentially a category of their own
Yea, i get that.Nothing against the guy, RIP and all that, but when John Peel likes a band, it's a sure sign for me to give them a wide berth.
Have you ever been married? This is such a weird album.
The more I listen to it, the more I identify the same qualities that things I really like have. Whether before or mostly after.
But yet, I can't quite cone around to actually feeling that I like (in the conventional sense at least) what I hear.
Can you like something, and not, at the same time?

After you've finished with this, which I suspect will be soon, if you haven't already, have a listen to This Nation's Saving Grace to see what you make of that.
I listened to it so you don’t have to @RobMCFC There are more Fall albums I haven’t heard than those I have. Anyway it’s good and you won’t like itWhat? Another Fall album? You couldn't pay me enough.
It's better than The Streets AGDCFF on a mere technicality.
That seems fair, though this record isn't Zappaesque musically IMO. I am trying to narrow down my thoughts specific to this record as opposed to what I know (which isn't a lot specifically, but something generally) about their evolution.Always think The Fall are a bit Zappaesque - you either love what you hear or you don’t
Think that's in the repetition in later albums .He wrote a song called I Am Damo SuzukiCan?
Not many people have heard of them. Don't be upset by that. Can?

A few early 80's bands like Blancmange were influenced by them.![]()

That's a new one on me.
Same here. Tried several times, but they’re just awful.Very hard to get into, even for me.
