The alternative memorable matches of the 90s thread

There was also a pre season against feyenoord that I witnessed one of the funniest things I've ever seen at a football match. Peter Beagrie picked up the ball and was about to go take on the right back. He stopped and realised there was an overlap from a blue shirt. However the guy making a an amazing run was a city fan invading the pitch and decided to start playing.

norhampton away was a 2 all draw and the pitch invasion not really sure it was 100s rather than about half a dozen including a 16 year old me

The goalie was a bit rotund much to the amusement of the city fans and we all expected to hit an absolute hatful against him but in typical city fashion we managed to make a complete mess of it.

Another Notts County game. A 3-1 win with Clive Allen hitting two after coming on as sub. Much to the delight of the city fans who had constantly backed him against the boss. I think the game was played on a sunday so as not clash with he nottingham goose fair. WTF?

Yep, that's right - you should know that the Nottingham goose fair always takes priority over a top flight football match! Tell you something else about that game - United and Liverpool were playing live on ITV that same day and Notts County's chairman wanted our game against them to be a morning kick-off as he believed the live game between the Rags and Dippers would affect the attendance at Meadow Lane. City refused, insisted on a 3pm kick off which clashed with the ITV match, and their chairman threw a wobbler. Whether the numbers were affected or not, what I found bizarre is that Notts County were in the same division as both United and Liverpool so for their chairman to be worried about some of their support preferring to watch that game on the box spoke volumes about a section of their fanbase.
