No worries Blue. Going to be a great PL this year, let's hope we are looking down on everyone else at the end of it (and by some margin :) )

Never been so excited for the season regardless who will bring in.

Things went stale under pellers

Huge buzz going about the whole club .
Roll on August

May to August is a real ball ache and time seems to stand still.

Pre season friendlies to get excited about soon. Hope we pull Moanio down a peg or two in China

Can see that big nosed pony tailed cry baby with his hands in his hips shaking his head a lot over ath the swamp next year gonna be great

Why are you so confident he'll play as a left-back for us? He's done it a few times in his career due to injuries, but that's all.

Is there something you've read that has convinced you?
Nope. He just fits the profile. A technically sound left footer with good possession skills, and good speed bought for a Pep team about to lose its fullback. I'm just putting 2 and 2 together.

Okay, but there's a relatively significant skill that he'd require on top of the two you mention, and that is the ability to defend to an adequate level.

Pep would surely need to be confident of that before deciding he takes one of two left-back spots. I don't see how he can be?

The ability to play to instructions? Yes. Can he defend? Probably. Haven't seen enough of him to say, but his coach at his old club has used him sometimes at leftback, so more likely than not he is no defensive novice.

I've never been a big believer in positional rigidity. Thankfully, we now have a coach who isn't either.

The current starting RB for Germany Kimich was likened to Gundogan in style and modeled his game on Shweini. Pep got a hold of him and plugged him in at CB a few times, now Low has him at RB.

Also I think organization is where our best defending will come from, not individual defensive effort. That said, I think Zichenko is probably a
good defender.

But we'll see. It fits in my mind. And Ive trusted my view of things more since Pep's hiring.

Said months ago that 2 wingers were a must. We seem to have come to that conclusion with the Nolito and Sane chase.

Pointed out Peres as the type of RB Pep will like as early as February, you can check the 'Pep Targets' thread.

2 ball playing CBs: He chose Laporte and Stones. Laporte fell out, but Stones still seems likely. Not to mention this new Bonucci link.

So my I stincts on the type of players ans how Pep views our needs has been pretty good so far.

My instincts tells me Zichencho is the likely LB candidate. I'm going to stay with that until Pep and City says otherwise :)

Pep did have 2 full-backs on both sides at Bayern. Alba, bernat, lahm, Rafinha. I hope we don't go into the season with Clichy as our only natural LB. But given the reports, it seem to be a possibility.

Maybe, but Lahm and Alaba spent half the time playing in positions other than fullback. None of them played as fullbacks as we know the position, they were as much midfielders, so Zinchenko could easilly be a full back / midfielder in a Pep team. But even if he goes on loan whoever we replace Kolarov with wont be a bog standard fullback.

The way things are developing I'm thinking back to Salford Paul's 'Boom' thread.... is this what he meant?

Feel like there's a lot of over excitement in this thread about the names touted.

Can't see adding Stones, Sane, Kroos, Bonucci propelling us into an unstoppable force as some are making out. Hardly Messi, Neymar, Suarez.

Add a striker to the list and there's reason to get hopes up - otherwise, it's still just relying on Aguero on his own or Iheanacho/Bony when he's injured. Not enough firepower there for a full season/4 comps.

If we get Suarez, Aubameyang or Lewendowski (unlikely as not linked), we're in with a real shout for the CL and beating the likes of Barca.

Two genuine world class players, and two with huge amounts of potential.
Playing for the best manager in the world.
In a team that already contains the likes of De Bryune and Aguero.

... you know, I don't think people are wrong in getting excited about this.

Absolute nonsense. You think we won't be a killer force with those 4 names mentioned add to having Bruno Peres and maybe some more additions with Guardiola in charge? Oh we will most definitely. I am super excited.

Stones has a lot of hard work to do if he wants to become a Pique quality player - fair enough, Pique at his age wasn't anything like he ended up showing himself to be, but Laporte seems to show the potential for that more than Stones.

Sane yes, could be world class - one day - but I'm talking next 2 seasons here.

Kroos, Bonucci yes would make us much more reliable and defensively sound but it's the final third that's lacking for me. When Kun was on his own last season he was totally isolated in key games. Of course Pep will improve a lot but, we need another world class forward to be getting giddy for me.

Exactly. A great time.to be blue :-)

Stones? You think Stones will contribute to us being a killer force next season? In future seasons good chance but in the short-term, sorry mate. He struggled at times last season.

Bruno Peres, how much do you know about him really? People seem to have all the sudden got giddy about him too despite barely anyone knowing anything about him 2 months ago. I'm confident he will be a great signing but will need to do some work under Pep before he becomes "killer' and has something like the impact of Alaba.

They would improve us as a force no doubt, but not so much a "killer" force to do damage to the top teams in the CL.

Not purposefully trying to be a kill joy but looking at it objectively - not even that, just normally. Those names don't seem to be adding up with the reactions people are giving. You'd think Suarez was one of them from the reactions. There'd still be a lot of hard work to do with those names.

Pep doesn't play with 2 strikers, he plays his main man and has wide forwards/ wingers/ attacking mid's around him and supporting him. We also could have Nolito, Kev, Sane and Sterling who could play as false 9's.
