We have bought a CM, and you say Gundogan is a good player. So that's half your argument shot down by your own goodself.

And we've added goals to the forward line in Sane and Nolito.
Worth adding too, that we would no doubt be looking at an additional striker if we could get of the lump that is Bony.

It's a weird one. Pep's obsession with CM's is well documented. Can only assume that he's happy with what he has. Which means im cool with it. This isn't Pellers or even Mancini. Pep would get a player no matter what the cost if he wanted a player.
The key point is if Pep believes he has enough there. If that's the case, then fine.

From my point of view, we don't. I'm not sure what midfield we start with - presumably the same as last season. There is a big reliance on a youth player stepping up, because if there is an injury to Gundogan/Dinho, then we are no better (player wise) than last year, as I said.

I guess the system will have a lot to do with it, as well. I'd certainly like another CM, though, but get what you say.

We played variations of 442 last season often with Yaya as one of the central two.

We won't be doing that. So it won't be the same midfield.

Signing a striker is all fine and dandy however he would have to be better than bony and kelechi and be prepared to sit on the bench a lot. If we managed to shift bony then we would no doubt sign someone. I think stones and another top quality midfielder would be a perfect window.

I said it will depend on the system. And we played variations of 4231, also. I question whether the CM we have is strong enough - it's an area we have needed to strengthen for a while - I'm not sure whether Gundogan alone will be enough, due to the potential of injuries putting us in the same place as last year.

I don't expect us to play a 442 - our system will be especially fluid under Pep - but there were a lot of games last season where we didn't play 442, and midfield was still an issue.

The basic formation was always 4222. The media listed it in all manner of weird formations but basically we had two wide players two centre mids a No 10 who was often right up front & a striker. Silva & DeBruyne like to flit about when played near Aguero but still we had a basic centre mid of two, one of which was Yaya, in almost every game. When we did try more of a genuine 3, we looked much more solid. But then he would change it again.

In a Pep team, we may have 7 players in midfield for a large part of the game. It's so different it's just impossible to judge it based on last season's pantomime.

Stones, then a goalkeeper, then our summer business is done. (Jesus since he is staying in Brazil until Dec doesn't count).

It might not have been a noisy window, but it's been a fantastic one nonetheless.

I agree mate....Would like another CM but Stones for me would complete a great summer!

Yep get Jesus, Moreno, Stones, Goalkeeper (Ter Stegen or Bravo)? done and the rest after will be luxury for me. Just need to get a few offloaded now that's what City should concentrate on.

Does anyone know how likely we are at offloading some players? I still think we are carrying some serious deadwood at the moment

It's all about the green with most players, we will end up paying a big part of salaries I fear, there have been a serious lack of rumours for toure, bony, nasri and kolorov

As a manager of another club you wouldn't be making any large bids for any of these players and would want some help with the wages

Could we not at least loan a few out and take 50% for there wages? Not ideal but it's better than having to pay full wack for them if they're not playing at all

A lot would depend on the length of their contracts, I wouldn't be against loaning out toure for example, I don't know what length the others have, getting rid completely is obviously the best option, I'm surprised a pl team hasn't made a sneaky offer for bony yet

Bony + 20 mill for stones; job done ;)

I am certainly no wum and I don't support Mancini

this forum is about different opinions and i'm just sharing my concerns for the season

anyway, the football can't come soon enough

Don't get me wrong, we've done terrific business improving the depth of our squad and raising our baseline but none of the signings we've made will massively improve the first team level and so IMO it's not a perfect window. I feel we'll have more options on match day but are missing that signing that would have made an instant impact and got us all excited. That said I'd back us as we are against anyone in England. We're still a fair bit away from the best in Europe.

Not sure you ruled him out because his injury doesn't allow for an "instant" impact, but Ilkay Gundogan for £20m is an incredible player at an incredible price.
