England bowling dictates that we'll get them 320-9 and then Starc and Hazlewood will get a 200 run partnership as Broad tries to bowl them out by bouncing the ball by his own front foot for 20 overs.
Good day overall, the best I've seen England bowl and work in the field for a long while. Turgid pitch but the ECB obviously panicked and had to kill it. I'd rather lose with a strong fight and learning experience, a la Aussies 2013, that plod in matches where we just kill the pitch and our players learn nothing about playing cricket in the real world. The NZ ODIs were a breath of fresh air, we need the bounciest pitches and blood our batsmen to grow a pair and take Johnson on.
That first paragraph could be as painfully accurate as it is amusing.
I really don't have a problem with countries creating pitches that favour their particular skills; batsmen from both sides have flourished and Starc took 5 wickets by putting the ball in the right place, something Johnson appeared incapable of doing. The Australians tried to bowl too fast, relying less on line and length, and suffered the consequences on a ground where the boundaries are not set far back. They need to learn to adapt to British conditions, too. At the same time, we've seen players already in poor form get themselves out and those prepared to graft get their just rewards. If the remaining three days mirror the first two, we might still see it go down to the wire, as long as Broad keeps aiming at the top of off stump.
