The back four isn’t title winning quality

They have dropped off in terms of performance have stones and Otamendi good CB’s when paired alongside Laporte or kompany but not together it’s a car crash,we also have that weakness at corners and set pieces which will be and has already been exploited by teams and it’s only 5 games in,honestly don’t know what the answer is,but it certainly needs rectifying or we could be to far behind to make up the deficit...

Now Vinnie has gone we lack a leader in defence. I don't think Otamendi or Stones have those leadership skills putting aside concerns about their defensive capabilities. I would be tempted to try Dhino alongside Stones. Dhino is a good reader of the game and has the skill set and to perform in a cb role imo. I also think he can be that potential leader we are looking for.

Worrying thing is the amount of times the opposition scores with the few chances they create.
The trend started when we had Bravo in goal and every shot seemed to be a goal, Norwich 3 from 3, Spurs 2 from 2 this season.
Set pieces are also a concern, we never look like scoring from any and the amount we get compared to chances created is awful. I know we are not a team of giants but Tm Cahil used to score plenty, its down to the delivery and ours are shocking, plus we look like conceding from every one conceeded. Its as if we never practice on them in training

The same way we felt Van Djik was too expensive at 75 million.

Besides Maguire, who else did we seriously look at?

it would be really intersting to now if there was a plan b to Maguire....i dont remember anyone else that was mentioned. It would be strange if there wasnt a plan B as Im pretty sure thats how we operate (and most clubs operate) within the transfer market.

Doesn't matter, the team put out should have been able to handle and beat norwich.

We created chances but were not clinical, every shot pratically was aimed straight at krull, add to that both our centre backs had a mare, gifting two goals.

Kev not playing is an easy excuse, we had enough out there to win it, we failed and norwich played well.
This all day long

It’s going to be a struggle keeping up with Liverpool over the next few weeks and months.

Guardiola wanted a centre back to replace Kompany but was told the funds weren’t available. The only deal we were subsequently able to do at the back involved a part cash, part player deal.

When you breakdown the current back four it’s not really one of title winning quality.

Walker - Despite being off form for parts of last year he’s comfortably the best of this back four selection. Not saying much though.
Stones - Inconsistent. Needs to play alongside a leader to bring out his best form.
Otamendi - Seems to have a major clanger in him every game or so. Not very vocal or organised.
Zinchenko - Done well for himself overall but he’d struggle to get a game as a starter in pretty much all the other top 6 sides. He’s clearly not a top player.

Maybe we’d be better with Walker and Fernandinho playing centre back as part of a back 3 alongside one of Stones or Otamendi. We could then have Mendy and Cancelo at wing back which would arguably be their best positions.

What would your first choice defensive line up be until Laporte’s return?
Who is this Mendy you speak of?
