The battle for 4th place

Should Liverpool win the Europa league do they get straight into the group stages? If so do both the third and fourth teams in PL have to join the qualifying round, or still just the fourth?

Having thought about the only reason I want Champions League is so we don't have loads of Sunday games, otherwise I'd be quite up for the prospect of Pep blooding several youngsters in the Europa League while going all out for the Prem.

I like the sunday games but to get the best players we have to get to the CL.
Correct Bill.

Also for me we have to consider what the impact will be for the Rags if they do get that fourth spot. They are currently on the ropes due to a lack of Champs League, empty seats, poor investment, they are even arguing over whether they can afford to give LVG a £5million pay off. Getting fourth and the £50 - £75million bonus for them will be a god-send, they won't believe it.

Pellegrini not only has held us back two years in my opinion, but has given United a lifeline they never thought possible a few months ago. Unbelievable situation to develop.

Sunday's match is mega.

Not to mention the fact that our FFP planning would assume a certain level of European income. FFP in both the EC and the Premiership hasn't gone away and the loss of that income will directly affect how much we can spend on transfers and wages.

Not finishing third or fourth is a really big deal and the Wednesday performance makes the decision to effectively forfeit the Southampton game among others all the more critical.

Rags kit sponsorship will be cut in half and would be a good start if they don't get through with shares value already declining.

Would be much much worse for them on financial level than us

Only if United fail to qualify for 2 years in a row will the Adidas money decrease.

Even if you drop points against Arsenal we won't capitalise, our away from is dire and we have 2 tough ones at relegation battling Norwich and the last ever game at Upton Park, under the lights.

I'd say West Ham are bigger threats for that 4th place.

this is exactly the reason i was so totally pissed off by the team selection against southampton, i`d like to know if those justifying pelligrini selecting a weakened team are now having second thoughts

Ashley Williams being rested by Swansea for their final two games in order to be fresh for the Euros suggests that Swansea have given up for the season. Shame their other game is against West Ham but must be good news for us.

Yes it was obvious that we could not afford to prioritise and we had to treat both matches as equally important and get at least a point at Southampton. Whichwith a better team we certainly could have done.

But people got understandably carried away with the belief that it was a worthwhile sacrifice because it would invigorate the team for a game where we would be one match away from CL qualification anyhow.

Plus they were all convinced we probably only had to beat Arsenal anyway to get in. Though that was only true if both United and West Ham slip tomorrow. Which is hard to see happening because they seem to want top 4 more than us.

The choice to prioritise was obviously Pellegrini's but you have to assume he club hierarchy supported that view.

But they absolutely should not let him do as he wants on Sunday if he feels inclined to muck about with things because it is the final home game for him and multiple players.

Someone has to impose on him if necessary the right team compose only of those we are pretty sure Pep wants next season. Unless there are very good reasons why they cannot play. And 'I want to give X, Y or Z a send off in front of their adoring fans' is not such a reason.

In fact (if it is not illegal?) I wold be asking Pep to advise on the team and tactics for Sunday as it effects him as much as (or in reality even more than) Pellegrini.

Anything that is allowed - up to a team talk into the dressing room via Skype - should be done to get us to win.

The absolute importance of this match needs hammering home to players.

i think we`d be better to let vinny select the team than audrey roberts

Unfortunately I suspect the club will play the honour card to the end, not wanting any bad press about Pelle being overruled for his last home game.

So I guess we just to hope he returns that trust. We will know if the team sheet shows Toure as captain in a midfield two. All things that anybody picking a team to win rather than to give departing players a last hurrah would not select.

Bring him on for the last 10 minutes for a cameo if things go well. But this match is much more important than any one player no matter how much of a great he has been for the club over the years. As he has.

We cannot afford Sunday to be about the past or else it will be in sacrifice to our future.

They might get that luxury at Swansea if Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday's matches play out in our favour. But we cannot presume that they will.

i fear this will be the case

Mr Pellegrini is still the Manager of Manchester City football club and should, without hesitation, be picking the team for both Arsenal and Swansea.

The team that he put out against Southampton were strong enough to have beaten them, they just didn't show up. We can only hope that their professionalism, whichever team he chooses, will give them the pride to fight to the end. After all, WE ARE MAN CITY WE FIGHT TO THE END, THE BOYS IN BLUE NEVER GIVE IN.

Nice sentiments. Unfortunately, we need more than that on Sunday./

IF he plays only players who will be here under Pep next season and so should be desperate for personal reasons to assure CL football for themselves next season, then we will get what you say and we will win. Though it would not go amiss to fire them up beforehand with why it matters.

IF he selects a team that includes 3 or 4 of the players we know will not be here next season out of sentiment or simply because he believes they are better players than others who will still be here (Bony over Iheanacho, Toure over Delph being possibilities here) then I fear that those players will possibly not have the desire to do enough and could drag the rest down.

This has to be as far as possible next seasons team playing FOR next season and so for themselves. If it is in any way compromised by yesterday's players on the field because it is our last home game and not out of total necessity then we will struggle.

For once, someone, somewhere has to sit down with Pellegrini and have a chat over the team and - by all means - let him pick it, so long as he picks the team that reflects the best interests of Pep's Manchester City 2016-2017 and not Pellegrini's Manchester City 2013 - 2016.

Correct rsos.

The game that did for me was the Derby, a real 6 pointer and a draw would have been a great result. Faced with the 3 young speed merchants from OT it was crazy to play his old mate Demi out of loyalty when Sagna would have done the job. We all saw what happened and had we got the draw we would be almost safe now. We sleepwalked into this nightmare scenario. He could have cost us big time.

One of the fans should walk into the dressing room and give the team talk, try and instill some bloody guts, fight and passion into the boys and let them know what it means to pull on that blue shirt (or ghost green or whatever colour is is called)
