The BBC | Tim Davie resigns as Director General over Trump documentary edit (p 187)

not watched motd for years with the notable exceptions of the final day when we win the league.
Found myself skipping thru just to get to city’s game .
These days I just rewatch the game.
As for lineker?
Paid 1.5 million for saying around 200 words on a Saturday night.
Has become too vocal on none football matters for me.
I think the wife watches one program on the bbc me none, might stop paying the licence.
Anybody stopped paying it and any comebacks from them?

You need to have one to watch live TV - doesn't have to be the BBC. Been so for years but the anti-BBC mob made it about the Beeb

You need to be covered by a TV Licence to watch programmes live on any online TV service - such as ITVX, All 4, Amazon Prime Video, Now TV or Sky Go. You don't need a TV Licence if you only ever watch on demand programmes on any TV service apart from BBC iPlayer.

i wonder what his views are on people being having to pay a tax to watch tv, some of whom have been put in prison for refusing to do so, the same tax which he is happy to collect over one million pounds a year from.
The wages they pay to some are obscene. Get rid of the license, let them have to earn their own money to pay presenters etc. I remember years ago reading Hanson was on 34k. I thought that was an annual salary and a lot for a few comments once a week. Then I re-read it and it was 34k a week.
I am sure there are ex players who could easily present it for 100k a year, not what they pay him and the others.

I watched a documentary on Hughie Green the other night: he thought he was way too powerful to be toppled from his lofty height, but he was proved very very wrong. The same could well happen here, presenters using their TV jobs to espouse their political (or otherwise) views.
Hughie Green ended up a morose, drunken, sanctimonious old man with only his memories to accompany him to his grave.

I'm not saying Lineker is wrong to publicly air his beliefs, personally I couldn't give a fuck about these celebrities and their immense wealth, and I certainly couldn't give a fuck about a football presenters' political views. But people in the public eye should tread very carefully about what they say and do, we all know there are lots of mentally unstable people in the world who will find offence in pretty much anything.

What lineker said was right.
Does he have the right to say it - absolutely
Is it unprofessional in his position to spout off like that on social media - probably.

How many of us on a daily basis censor ourselves on FB, twitter etc with one eye on how our employer may see it? - quite a few I imagine.

I fundamentally disagree with what Lineker has said, he is so out of touch with the real Britain where we have an acute shortage of Housing, Hospital places, Schools, Teachers, Doctors, Nurses and everything else that a simple basic society needs. It would be stupid to blame the immigrants, it is NOT their fault. Furthermore today, we do not have the capacity to take on board any more people.

However if Lineker thinks it is good to add to the problem it is his fundamental human right living in Britain to say so and that should never be taken away provided it is within the law!

And you fix that by breaking internal law by introducing a bill that even the Home Sec its architect and sponsor has to caveat on the cover by saying she doesn't know for sure its legal or illegal? A bill you won't be able to do anything with - deport people - where to? How? Who will take them? Is that it?

I'd suggest you process asylum claims immediately because those who fail ARE illegally here in the eyes of the law - build houses, schools and hospitals - employ and pay doctors, nurses and teachers don't under value them then refuse to talk to them before they strike like a petulant child.

If you are annoyed by hotels full of people at a cost to the country then buckle up because if another 60k come this year after this bill is passed they will be stateless but here - we are unable to deport them and they sure as fuck don't want them roaming the streets committing crimes and evidencing what a failure they have become and if you are holidaying in the UK this year book early and get a week by the sea in before the Home Office commandeer your hotel room.

Why is he out of touch ? Having money doesnt mean you are out of touch and dont notice all the things you mention

I dont get why everyone says he gets paid a fortune therefore he is not allowed to have an opinion

And 30p lee’s outpourings about fighting the next GE on culture wars removes any doubt at all about the attitude and intentions of this so-called ‘immigration policy’

Or it could be the real Britain that is so out of touch, if they think this government gives half a fuck about their real basic needs.

If we’ve got an acute shortage of teachers, doctors, nurses and other workers that a simple basic society needs, surely it’s not a good idea to house potential workers at the taxpayers expense for months on end in hotels. It would make much more sense to expedite the processing of their asylum claims, and if successful let them join the workforce and start contributing. Win win.

Lineker is a extremely talented and brilliant presenter that is much loved - if BBC did get rid of him he would very easily make millions presenting on other channels... which he does anyway

as for your other point, no one should be silenced for fear of the 'mentally unstable'
