The best "long" songs

I preferred them with Paul Mennal on vocals. More poppy sound but he had a great voice. Saw them at Manchester Academy on the “Are you Sitting Comfortably “ tour
I think Pete Nicholl's voice has improved considerably with age.

I heard Mennels IQ first and then bought Ever when Nicholls rejoined. I struggled to get into it as I couldn’t warm to his voice at all.
What album would you recommend if I was to give them another go?

Seventh House
Subterranea
Dark Matter
The Wake

Ever is a difficult LP as are Road of Bones and Frequency.

Definitely begin with

Dark Matter
Frequency*

*Frequency includes a bonus live dvd with all their greatest hits on it, essential.
I think Frequency and Road of Bones show a dip in form - there's a lack of originality and a feeling that they are recycling the same formula.

I like that Road of Bones has a “heavy” sound, but is not tuneful enough for me. I’ve tried to get “into it” over the last few years, alas, all to no avail. But I’ve not thrown in the towel completely, I may crack this nut yet. I also like that it is about a serial killer.

I’ve played Frequency loads of times and still play it today, and admit I love it. But regardless of Frequency’s merits, it’s essential for the live concert footage dvd. It’s two hours long of all their choicest tunes. I don’t think there’s a superior 2 hours of music anywhere.

Never forgave them for Illegal Alien, Who Dunnit etc. Having said that I like Mama and one or two others but Duke was the turning point for me.
Fair point, TOHK.
Duke was their last (proper) hurrah, BUT
Side One of "Genesis" was class
Invisible Touch was OK
We Can't Dance in parts was OK, in other parts, it was EXCELLENT
Calling All Stations is increadably underrated.
