The best player in my memory is Zidane....

It’s always tough to say who is the best ever. Different positions, different times, different dominant playing styles. Fat Ronaldo was pretty damned awesome, in his prime. If Messi can win the WC this year, though, I think there’s no argument. He will be top.

KDB is the best Prem midfielder ever , Gerrard runs a close second
Slippy was very good but was never considered world class unlike KDB who is surely the best ever in the Prem and arguably one of the best in the world. Never witnessed Zidane pressing like a madman in the 85th minute of a game and I never saw Kev head butt an opposing player. Best ever though has to be Messi.

Cruyff for the silkiness and ease of his play, he never looked like he ever tried it just came natural.

The real Ronaldo for me was the best he had everything, speed strength dribbling and what a striker of the ball.

Ronaldo, the best player I've seen live. Absolute perfection and grace with the ball at his feet. And what a finisher.

I'd have Lampard over Gerrard.

Spanish Dave, Yaya, Viera, Makelele and the ginger **** Paul Scholes are probably the others in that top tier, for me anyway.

Agree Kev is the best though. Looking outside the prem I think Iniesta has been the best midfielder of my lifetime, but Kev is right there with Zidane and a few personal favorites like Pirlo and Pavel Nedved

Really can't compare footballers from different era's going back as far as the 70's or further.

Many of today's great players wouldn't be able to cope with the physicality of the game or the poor quality pitches back in the 70's or 80's, likwise many of yesteryears greats wouldn't be able to cope with the pace of the game and the increased fitness levels that all players have today.

It's all subjective, of course. But, for me, Zidane wouldn't be in the top 3 or 4 best players. Messi and both Ronaldos (yes; including, arguably, the show pony from Trafford) were, at their peak, comfortably ahead of Zidane.
