Looking back, it's easy to forget just how desperately we needed Kolarov by the time he arrived. Bridge had become so mediocre so quickly that we were still playing Garrido over him (even though Bridge was signed as his replacement), and when Mancini came in we played Zabaleta out of position instead of allowing Bridge to carry on. I remember him playing really well against Middlesbrough on Given's debut in 2009, and then he played out of his skin to get one over John Terry when we beat Chelsea 4-2 a year later, but I honestly couldn't recall another game he played in a blue shirt if you paid me.
