The Bluemoon Song Cup 2023

I am totally amazed that you lot are voting for S&G as it is well known fact and has been in the Echo repeatedly that both Art & Paul are ardent Liverpool supporters...in fact it was always their dream when growing up to play for the European Royalty on those wonderful European (Thuirsday) nights .
So on that basis you should all switch your votes to The Smiths
just being helpful (and very honest)...Lah

What a match up! Only in the GMA or among Mancuniophiles does S&G have a chance of losing this. And even me being the latter it’s a tough one! It’s my favo(u)rite S&G song vs. a good-but-not-my-favo(u)rite Smiths song.
I have this nagging feeling that the Boxer is one of your picks Fog.

Not sure how high it is on your list of all time favourites Fog but yes certainly one of their best albeit the coda is a little too long IMO.

S and G and Simon solo also — the best stuff is among my favo(u)rite music, but there isn’t enough “best stuff”, so I never think about him/them as great. Also — Californians tend to be slightly wary of New York music because so many New Yorkers fall all over themselves sucking up to the scene (Ramones, New York Dolls, VU, Talking Heads, Sonic Youth, etc.) That said I do really love this song and TCM is good but not great (against “Stop If You Think . . .” would be a much tougher call for me).

As for me picking this — errrrr, as you can probably guess most of my picks will lean and have already leaned toward the “get run over by the opposition” kind.

OK, there was also a fair bit of dross in between but it's not a bad body of work, on top of S&G

And don't forget Art had Bright Eyes!

It's taken me ages to pick between these two. Both songs hold huge significance for me and they both feature in the playlist that @andyhinch and I compiled over several years of subjecting each other to our individual musical tastes. So I picked The Boxer as it was one of his top 5. But he'd be livid that in voting for this one, I'd effectively voted against the Smiths.
A rock and a hard place this round. Maybe I shouldn't have voted for either?
