The Bluemoon Song Cup 2023

Both great tracks, but gone for the Alicia Keys track. Reminds me of a great period of my life.

James had some hits around that time but they are not a Madchester band. They transcend all of that; they were going years before Madchester and are still going 30-odd years after. Stylistically, they didn't get caugth up in that movement.
Correct in that they weren't a Madchester type band but hit the big time via association with Manchester.
Loved their first two albums but they weren't going many places (outside the city) with it. Sit Down flopped first time round but given a remix as Madchester took off and hey presto they're selling out GMEX!
Again it was dance remixes to songs like Come Home and How Was It For You? that kept the momentum going.
When I think about the top 4 Madchester bands it's the Roses, Mondays, Carpets and James - non of which sounded remotely like each other, yet they spent formative years supporting each other at places like the Boardwalk and International One and sharing rehearsal studios. They were definitely part of a scene that at the time wasn't a scene (if that makes sense)

In some ways I prefer Empire State of Mind as a song but I have a big soft spot for Christine McVie as a writer and perfomer so going to go with Everywhere.
